Water was a pretty big concern on our scouting trip. We counted our self lucky to find a few intermittent streams that were still flowing, and some seeps that with a little work, we were able to extract water from. However, September may be dryer. Will be bringing our sawyer squeeze filters, but also a pump, and a small section of garden hose to use in seeps and springs.

I love catching smallmouth bass, and I hope that I get a chance to get out at least a time or two again before fall sets in. But Summer seems to be wrapping up quickly, I've got a Wyoming elk hunt in my sites, and I still have a tremendous amount of prep work to do for deer season.
The cool waters are calling. Maybe Labor Day?

Earlier this week I got to share stories of my 18 days of elk hunting in the field with someone that has more more than 18 years of elk hunting experience.
is an author, and a bit of a hunting legend, at least in my household. But here's something you may not know: he's an amazing human being in pretty much every way. He's a great host, but I also got to see him being an awesome husband, father, friend, and advocate for the outdoors. His wisdom, kindness, and authenticity are as real as it gets.
The hunting industry is full of personalities, but could use more REAL PEOPLE. That's Mark, 100%.

A little action to my very first elk hunt in 2018 with in Colorado. This year I was lucky enough to get a Wyoming tag. It's hard to believe that in one month I'll be in the bighorn mountains.

The maiden voyage of my CK1 Venture came off without a hitch. It's the perfect size boat for me. We had a blast and all of the fish we caught were fighting WAY out of their weight class. We had several fish that fought like 3 and 4 pound river smallies that ended up weighing half of that. It's a stretch of water we'll definitely hit again.

Our Boundary Waters trip with exceeded all of our expectations. We even managed to gain a few pounds each with the amount of walleye and pike we consumed. Nothing better than foil pocket lemon pepper walleye over a fire!
