Happy Monday EAM sisters!

In the second episode of the Holy Liturgy series, we dedicate our discussion to the healing that liturgy offers us. The fact that liturgy is not just limited to our Sunday mornings, but extends into our relationships, work, and day to day tasks, really gives us the chance to involve God's grace and His love for us to transform every part of our lives. Join us to hear more reflections on parts of the liturgy from the fathers of the church, and some of our own experiences as a testimony to the blessings of the Holy Liturgy.

Blessed Lazarus Saturday EAM sisters!
Holy Week is fast approaching, so we think Justina’s book recommendation is a perfect resource to help us prepare ourselves throughout the week!

“How many times do I wear a cross close to my heart, symbolizing that I am a child of Yours and yet my heart is far from Your love?”
This book has been so edifying to pick up and contemplate on as I enter into the journey of His sufferings. H.H. Pope Shenouda III beautifully walks the readers through how we should share in His pain and sufferings to benefit from the holiest week of the year. His Holiness explains the essence of Christ’s love for us through His power, His glory, and Honor that He displayed for us while He was here on earth. Within every page turn, you discover a new way to contemplate on the Lord’s sufferings as He made His way to the cross for our salvation. This book has a humbling view on how and why one should live their life to reflect His sacrifice and love for us. As I continue to read and contemplate on the words in this book, I find new understanding of the Orthodox traditions we partake in during Holy Week. 10/10 book for anyone wanting something to read for the rest of lent or even after!

⭐️LOGO CONTEST WINNER⭐️

We are super excited to announce our logo winner…. Drum roll please🥁🥁..

!!!!

Our talented Cynthia explains the meaning behind her logo design and her inspiration!

EAM always talks about Christ as our core, this logo hopes to embody that. The woman wears her crown as her beautiful, curly hair and wears her Core's suffering as her necklace. Her face is absent of facial features, not only for the artist's laziness but also to represent she is a vessel, a conduit of her Christ's senses. She still has her ears, representing the importance of listening to our Creator. The necklace is also her anchor, she is glorified (raised up) through thim, and rooted in Him. All glory to Him Who raises us, may His will be done. Amen ♥️

“Whoever you may be, always have God before your eyes; whatever you do, do it according to the testimony of the holy Scriptures; in whatever place you live, do not easily leave it. Keep these three precepts and you will be saved.” -St. Anthony the Great
One of the best and simplest books I have read so far. Of course the title gives it away, the simple yet rich writing of St. Athanasius narrates the life of The great St. Anthony and how he became the great Anthony. How his life as a monastic in the desert of Egypt started, from obeying the message of the gospel, to living in a tomb and getting physically beaten by the devils, to going deeper in the desert and starting the monastic life. I was honestly completely astonished by his strength that flowed from his love to God. If you ever wondered how someone can live his/her life in complete submission to Christ, read the Life of Anthony. The edition I read had some contemplations by Pope Shenouda. H.H reiterated this love St. Anthony had for God, and how God’s grace and love fell upon St. Anthony.

Helloooo EAM sisters, we’ve got a book review for you!

(1/4) In Jesus the Bridegroom, Brant Pitre uses Jewish Scripture and tradition, to explore the suffering and death of Jesus as more than a tragic Roman ex*****on. Instead, the Passion of Christ was the fulfillment of ancient Jewish prophecies of a wedding when the God of the universe would wed Himself to humankind in an everlasting nuptial covenant.

Most Christians are familiar with the apostle Paul’s teaching that Christ is the ‘Bridegroom’ and the Church is the ‘Bride’. But what does this really mean? And why would Paul compare the death of Christ to the love of a husband for his wife? If you had been at the Crucifixion, with Jesus hanging there dying, is that how you would have described it? How could a first-century Jew like Paul, who knew how brutal Roman crucifixions were, have ever compared the ex*****on of Jesus to a wedding? And why does he refer to this as the “great mystery” (Ephesians 5:32)?

Time for another Book Review!!
If you have ever wondered what exactly the Jesus Prayer is and how you can benefit from it daily, this book provides the perfect starting point. This beautiful story about a poor Russian pilgrim, who travels on foot from place to place, takes you on a spiritual journey of how prayer can be strengthened and understood. The journey starts when he is awestruck with the words of Paul in I Thessalonians when he writes to “pray without ceasing.” Through many encounters, hardships, and spiritual cannons, the reader is enlightened by hearing about the power of the Jesus prayer and the ex*****ons behind what it means to truly pray without ceasing. Personally, this is one of the most powerful books I have read and I highly recommend it! This book brought me so much peace, understanding, and a new perspective on growing in Christ with simple, yet powerful, actions throughout my day. If it wasn’t clear before — go read this now!!

**Book Review Alert**
Anthony Marcos brings to life the humble yet moving life story of Father Mina Abood in the book, A Spring in Sinai. This book made me tear up, laugh out loud, and inspired me to quietly request the intercessions of this martyr who wanted nothing more than to be with his Lord and Savior. Marcos and Sister Milad beautifully capture the essence of Father Mina’s life by portraying his story, which became an inspiration to all, bringing the reader comfort and a yearning to draw closer to the Lord.

I personally couldn’t put this book down and finished it in 3 days!! 10/10 recommend it for anyone wanting to read a good book!

One of them is definitely my first time attending Liturgy and taking the holy Eucharist after our first covid lockdown!! I remember how we were all just filled with an indescribable heavenly joy and I felt engulfed in light like Saul in Acts 9, before he became Paul ☺️ It was as if I had taken communion for the first time, and I truly felt Christ abiding in me. I pray that I can always value and savour the holy Liturgy and Eucharist the same way as when I was deprived from them for months.

3. Favourite quote?
“You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they find rest in You.” ~ St. Augustine…Sooo beautiful :) ❤️

🤩Staple Saturday🤩

Happy New Years to all our lovely EAM sisters♥️

Today’s resource staple is the incredible book behind all of our incarnation series episodes! Yup, you guessed it “On the Incarnation” by St. Athanasius

Composed in the fourth century, it expounds with simplicity the theological vision defended at the councils of Nicaea and Constantinople: that the Son of God himself became "fully human, so that we might become god." Its influence on all Christian theology thereafter, East and West, ensures its place as one of the few "must read" books to help us gain a better understanding on God’s love and His incarnation!

Blessed New Years Resolutions:

1 Pray every day. Accept a Prayer Rule in your life, and then try to follow that rule every day. Prayer is connecting with God, communing with the Source of life. Say set prayers every morning and evening, but then seek to talk with God throughout the day. Don’t let an hour go by where you don’t “check in” with God and turn your attention to Him.

2 Do not only prayer, but meditate. This means sitting in silence for 10 or 15 minutes each day, and trying to clear your mind of all clutter, simply sitting in the presence of God. You can do this in front of an icon, or you can sit anyone and close your eyes, reciting the Jesus Prayer – “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have Mercy On Me, a Sinner.”

3 Strive to fill your mind each day with something that is “true, noble, just, pure, lovely, holy” (Phil 4:8). In other words, take time every day to read Holy Scripture, and other edifying spiritual writings – for five or ten minutes. Fill your mind with words and thoughts that will sanctify you. Meditate on what you read, and try to apply what you read in your life.

4 Take time each day to express gratitude, first towards God and then towards others. Even when you are having a tough day, pause and think of five things for which you can thank God. And make it a point that whenever you are frustrated, you thank God even more!

5 Each day hand over any anger or resentment to God. Don’t allow the day to end while holding on to any bitterness. This means that we have to practice forgiveness daily. Take time each day to reflect on your own mistakes, asking God for forgiveness. Then, offer your forgiveness to anyone who may have hurt or offended you.

6 Refuse to let jealousy, covetousness, greed, and envy preoccupy your mind. Thank God for what you have, and “rejoice with those who rejoice

7 Every day remember how Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, and then think about how you can humbly serve others. And strive to serve others with joy. Remember that it’s a blessing to be able to serve and to give to others.
