Posted @withregram • @policeposts About a year ago I heard @joerogan mention this page on his podcast. I have a lot of respect for someone with his reach to be open minded, willing to learn and understand regardless of the topic.
This is a great discussion with Joe Rogan and @lexfridman on jiu jitsu and policing. The concept of having every police officer accomplish a certain level in Jiu Jitsu would be game changing for multiple reasons, not just for defensive tactics. Jiu Jitsu has many benefits: body awareness, confidence, the ability to process information faster, health benefits, etc. It directly and positively affects other necessary training disciplines. Continuing education for law enforcement is key and is where some agencies are failing. Continuing education with modern/proven tactics will lead to less injury/death, lawsuits, etc. The world is evolving, policing must evolve too. We can always be better.
Now…
How the public perceives these training methods is a whole different topic. A vast number of political figures, celebrities and extreme activist are usually heavily opinionated and also highly uneducated. “People fear things they do not understand” and policing falls into that category often. This topic was also discussed on this episode.
Policing is complex however the public will judge an officer off a :15 second clip and decide his/her fate even if it was justified. Use of force is never pretty. Remember de-escalation is always the goal but not always the answer for that situation. The situations dictates force.
It has always been my mission to educate. Not only cops but the public. Having the ability to breakdown a situation so that is understandable to the general public is a great way to replace that fear with understanding/logic. Remember that simple concepts are sometimes the easiest to train and are highly effective.
Joe, I’m honored to be mentioned on your podcast.🇺🇸
Go Train.
