A lawmaker has filed two bills that aim to grant single employees in the country “heartbreak” and “wellness” leaves.

In proposing the measure, Cagayan de Oro 1st District Rep. Lordan Suan stressed the importance of relieving unmarried individuals or those without partners of social pressures.

Suan’s HB No. 9932 or the proposed Singles Well-Being Leave Act seeks to give single employees in the public and private sector an unpaid leave on February 15, a day after Valentine’s Day.

“While Valentine’s Day celebrates love and affection, for single employees, it can be a minefield of social pressure, loneliness, and commercialized reminders of their relationship status. All of these factors significantly influence their mental health and, consequently, their productivity at work,” Suan said in the explanatory note for HB No. 9932.

FORMER Mayor Oscar Moreno declared his intention to run in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections during a media fellowship event held on January 18. Moreno’s decision hinges on the candidacy of the current Mayor Rolando Uy.
Expressing concern about the current state of the city, Moreno emphasized the need for a change in leadership, citing issues such as the overflowing garbage and an apparent tip-of-the-iceberg problem with the city’s administration.
He stressed his reservations about the city being under Uy’s governance.
“At 72 years old, I am enjoying my life now. I play basketball, and I have my Overtime show. I thought that the city is in good hands, but I’m being proven wrong,” Moreno told reporters.

ONLY introduced this year, the dart competition produced the Provincial Capitol team as its inaugural champion in the recently-held Paglaum Sportsfest as the main highlight of the 94th Founding Anniversary of Misamis Oriental.

Held at the weight gym of the Don Gregorio Pelaez Sports Center, the Capitol darters topped Bracket A for the combined four-man team, doubles and singles rivalries then eagerly awaited the Bracket B winner between Initao and guest Cagayan de Oro for the showdown.

For a while, they grew nervous when the tough Cagayan de Oro team held its ground against the equally strong Initao.

LOOK: The new P1,000 bank note design that featured a Philippine eagle has been released to the public.
Night Owl by Anna Lamentillo posted a photo of the design on Facebook on April 21.
“Love the new 1000 peso bill! Congrats, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas!” the page said.
The post drew 74,000 reactions, 3,200 comments and 53,000 shares on the platform as of posting. The reactions were mostly positive with 42,000 heart emojis, 18,000 shocked emojis, and 13,000 likes.
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said the 1,000-peso polymer banknote was released on April 18, 2022, to test the public’s acceptance of plastic-based money.
It was in December 2021 when the BSP revealed the new design for the P1,000 bill, replacing the country’s World War II heroes with the Philippine eagle.
The misspelled scientific name of the Philippine eagle – supposedly Pithecophaga jefferyi and not “Pithecophega jefforyi” as shown in the December design – has been corrected.
The BSP said the initial circulation of 10 million pieces will help them assess the benefits of using plastic-based money, particularly on hygiene and public health, environmental sustainability, durability, and counterfeiting rates
