Japan, the land of rising sun, is an awesome country that keeps coming up with interesting innovations. In fact, some of the Japanese inventions are so peculiar that they are beyond comprehension. From vending machines for almost everything and cuddle cafes of octopus flavoured ice-creams, Japan never ceases to amaze the world with its creativity. Here are some amazing things that are unique to Japan:
1. Phallus festivals known as Kanamara festival
This is a annual festival where Japanese believe in praying for child birth protection, strong marriages & protection from AIDS.
It is so fascinating to see chocolates, snacks deserts all are phallus shaped.
2. Naked bathing in Onsen
Onsen means hot spring in Japanese, or in other words, a bath where the water has been heated by the earth.
You need to be completely naked in the Onsen and it is a rule. Which is awesome as everyone is so comfortable in their skin.
3. Vending machine
Japan is obsessed with vending machine.
They have vending machine for snacks, cold & hot beverages, fresh vegetables, flowers and even Bugs.
There are approximately 4 million vending machinen nationwide.
4. Japanese pushers
It is one of the weirdest jobs in the world. During the rush hours metros get crazy packed in Japan the pushers have to literally push the people inside the train for the door to close.
5. Slurping Noodles
Slurping noodles in Japan is not rude, on the contrary there is popular belief that slurping noodles shows how much you are enjoying the meal and it also enhances the taste.
Note : You can book your experience in Japan via @klookindia and grab great deals.

On my 9 days trip I covered Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, Osaka & Hiroshima.
Here are some of the cost points you need to keep in mind before planning a trip to Japan. Cost break-up is per person.
Fight cost : There are plenty of flight options available from India. You can easily choose as per your convenience.
Cost of return flight : Rs. 45-48k (Dept from Delhi)
Visa : Process is quite simple and takes about 5-7 working days.
Rs. 1150 (Rs. 500 : Visa fees + Rs. 650 : VFS charges)
Accomodation : Accommodations are quite expensive in Japan, especially if you need bigger space. You can choose to stay in Airbnbs, capsule hostels or hotels as per your budget.
While picking a hotel in Hakone make sure to book one with Onsen, it is truly an unforgettable experience.
Price mentioned above is the minimum one will need for a 9 day trip.
Food : Japan is heaven for food lovers especially if you love sea-food but if you are vegetarian like me then finding food is a treasure hunt.
There are plenty of convenience stores (seven eleven) which have great ready to cook food options available.
All good restaurants in Japan require reservations, otherwise you might end up waiting in the queue for 30mins to 1.5 hours.
Transportation : Travelling in and around Japan is expensive. For intercity commute JR pass is a life saver which costs approx Rs. 17k for 7 days. The pass can be used for local JR lines to selected Bullet train rides.
Metro and buses are highly effective and can cost you approx Rs. 5000.
Do pack your most comfy pair of shoes because you will have to walk a lot since taxis are expensive and are sure to create a hole in the pocket.
Activites : Quite a few things in Japan are free to visit. If you want to indulge in activities you might require prior reservations. I attended Japanese calligraphy and Sushi making sessions and had booked 3-4 days in advance.
Drop your questions in the comments and I will be happy to help !
Note : You can book JR pass and activities
Save and share this reel if you want to explore two countries at the cost of one.

Safety : Kashmir is very safe, people are really warm and hospitable especially to the tourists. Just respect the locals and their culture.
Is Kashmir expensive?
Kashmir is costly than most hill stations in India. Stays, taxis and activities are a bit expensive compared to other tourist places.
Cab : Ola/Uber services are not available, however there are numerous local cab services which are easily available and can provide services as per your itinerary.
Mobile Network : Only postpaid connection works in Kashmir. You can carry one or purchase one from Kashmir but I would suggest you to carry one otherwise UPI payments won’t work. All network providers have their services in Kashmir however JIO is best amongst all.
Drones : Drones are strictly banned in Kashmir. Getting caught with drones can attract severe punishments.
Cost & Timings :
Gondola ride (Gulmarg) & Shikara ride (Srinagar) are two must do experiences in Kashmir and you will enjoy every bit of it.
Cost of Gondola : Rs. 740 (Phase 1)
Rs. 950 (Phase 2)
Timings : 10am to 5pm
Note : View on Phase 2 is heavenly and breathtaking but oxygen level is quite low hence it is advised to visit only if you are healthy and fit.
Also, infants are not allowed on Phase 2.
Shikara ride :
Cost : As per the officials : Rs 600/hour.
But official rates are never charged Shikara owners, they quote anywhere between Rs. 1500 to Rs. 3000.
You can negotiate and bring them down till Rs. 1000/ hour.
Note : Be aware!!
1. At the end of the ride, Shikara owners have a tendency to ask for couple of hundreds as tip.
2. Do not buy anything from floating market. They overcharge a lot!
Timings : 7am to 7pm (Max)
Shopping : Whether you want to buy handicrafts, kesar or dry fruits, only buy from registered government
