My palette might be crazy!
I haven’t done an official Mouth of da South review for JW’s Barbecue yet. But they need to be on every BBQ lovers “Hit List”! Now I been in. I smelled it. I saw the wall. I taste tested. I just haven’t had a full meal there yet.
But y’all, I HAVE TO GO to Explore Jacksonville, Texas to EAT THIS!
I moved from ETX and made Arkansas home away from home for 17 yrs. My first intro to slaw on BBQ was at Sims Bar-B-Que I would get talked bad about for eating it like that here at home. 😂
However, this feels like vindication day🤘♥️
Y’all ever eat slaw on pulled pork on purpose?!
A little throw back to when I lived in Arkansas. Pulled pork slider with some sweet sauce topped with cole slaw. Not too bad for quick bite.

Sunday dinner.
I learned this flavor combination from a family in Arkansas. Spaghetti, greens, fried fish & hot water cornbread. At first I thought it was odd. Now I find myself getting a hankering for and making it myself.
Y’all ever tried it? This is Big Daddy’s Hot Water Cornbread from Old Hickory Sauce Company in Smackover, Arkansas. If you’re anywheres from East Texas to Mississippi you ought to be able to find it at a grocer.

Red Beans & Rice kind of night. Put this Kountry Boys andouille sausage on my grill til it plumped up and then drowned it in my beans. They ain’t paying me. This is good damn sausage and it’s affordable. Got mine at Brookshire's for $4.99/pk this week. They ain’t paying me either. I add an extra egg to my Jiffy Corn Muffin mix to make it like cake and I use a whole stick of butter in the pan. What are y’all cooking this weekend?

It was BYOB. My parents would bring wine & we’d spend the evening there. Eating. Visiting.
Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1937, Dave Delio brought the flavor of authentic Italian food to an area of East Texas, that otherwise may not have experienced Italian culture.
My personal love of pasta, breads & sauce started in this room in Chapel Hill as a little girl during the 1980’s, as did many. Our memories are all that is left of Delio’s. The nostalgia from former staff/patrons is still felt. I take the heartfelt memory of Dave Delio’s joy of feeding people on this journey with me for Mouth of da South.

Hey y’all I love this little shop in Van, TX Homegrown Farm and Garden! Farmers & makers markets are a passion of mine.
I come from farmers. My Pappaw Dudley sold watermelons & tomatoes off the back of his pickup in Whitehouse, Texas under the big tree at the 4 way! Now Whitehouse Farmers Market has one of the best markets in ETX!
Supporting markets is a way of life for us, it means supporting your neighbor and their family.
If you’re coming down I20 they are right there in downtown Van Texas!

I worked in the service industry most of my life. It’s hard work. The hardest work. I want to give credit where it is due always. When you have a good experience, everyone should know it.
Y’all I would love this to find Ms. Ethel at Buc-ee's. She had the best energy. She deserves to know the impact she made on our visit to this location. She really reminded me of my grandmother Georgia Helen Dudley. She was a classy lady too. ♥️
I know from our chat Ms. Ethel isn’t on social media, but her grandkids are. There’s only a little over 30 million folks in Texas, I know we can find her y’all. 🙏💄💋

I can brunch by myself. 🫦 This is crescent dough, top & bottom.. middle like a frittata with leftover meats & cheeses from homemade pizza last night. Some good herbs and garlic of course butter, fresh eggs and cream. I whipped it kinda like a soufflé and cooked it slow so it stayed fluffy as hell. McKay's Ranch House in Kilgore, TX will transport you back in time to a place where if it ain’t broke, you don’t need to fix it. Reminiscent of reruns of Dallas run through my mind here. Mouth of da South has visited on a few occasions, each time it’s a little better than before. There is full menu but most patrons partake in the hot line buffet which includes various meats (ie, fried pork chops, chicken fried steak, baked chicken) & vegetables. There is a full salad bar. The dessert though, they are famous for bread pudding. Well worth visiting the City of Kilgore, Texas.
