So just posted a version of this on Reddit as a comment to someone else and felt it could be of use to help others.

Taken off the top of my head after listening to at least 100 hours of the Comix Launch Podcast as well as websites and books on crowdfunding. I have more that I have written down over a bunch of documents that I will come back to compile/post later. These were big ones off the top of my head.

I am going to highlight the top 3
1) Go listen to a ton of the Comix Launch podcasts. Look at the titles to highlight the ones to read first because there are over 350! I used Downcast app on my phone as it allows you to skip by 15-30 second jumps to avoid blah blah blah. I also listen on 1.5-2x speed to make getting through them faster.

2) You must plan on BRINGING YOUR OWN AUDIANCE to your platform. Do so by developing a social media following / e-mail list so that when you launch you have people coming right away to back, generate buzz and get you trending on the platform. If you just post figuring if you build it they will come, you will FAIL.

3) For comics/graphic novels, unless you are a known entity with a big following already you need to launch on Kickstarter not Indigogo or Zoop or other. At least in 2022. The ecosystem is just WAY larger. Comics getting $10s of thousand and even $100s of thousands is a regular occurrence on Kickstarter. The other sites just do not have the same audience/following.

Below are some more tips assuming a 22-32 page comic.

Your campaign should have at least 5 pages of sequential art from the book.

You should have a video with your voice narrating about yourself and the project. Ideally a video of you intercut with the art. Have a TIGHT script to finish around 90-120 seconds. Avoid pauses/ummmmms. Specifically ASK for help, Explain why they should support you, Explain what you will do with the money, explain where the project is currently and show off the project and say why people should care.

You should have great images.

You should offer at least 2-3 variant covers.

You should have a $1 option - even if is just a digital desktop background.

You should NOT list all your stretch goals up front - Just show the first then blur out the rest or leave as ###X - as it moves along aim to fill a stretch goal every 2 days or so. You don't want all your goals to be achieved if 1st day goes awesome. Plan and budget these IN ADVANCE of the launch.

Digital PDF + acknowledgement for $2 more

Print pricing at least $11 (check the august Comix Launch Podcast on pricing). Average is actually $12-13+shipping so finishing around $20-22 with shipping!!! Don't leave money on the table as you need money to build your art.

Everything you do make sure to factor in fulfillment and shipping. If you go slightly over size or over weight meaning you can not ship by Media mail your shipping costs EXPLODE!

Make sure to have add and use add on options for your tiers

Have a Pie Chart for where money will be spent

Have a section on Risks and challenges. Kickstarter ranking is higher if you do.

Strongly consider Backerkit or similar to both help with fulfillment but also in pre-launch promotion and post-launch sales.
