In a remarkable rescue operation, herpetologists Trikal Chakraborty and Vishal Sonar, assisted by Assam University students, successfully rescued a massive 17-foot-long, 100kg Burmese python from near the AU girls' hostel at 11:45 pm on Wednesday.

The operation reportedly marks the largest python rescue in Barak Valley’s history. The snake, which posed a potential danger, was carefully handled and relocated to a safer habitat, showcasing the vital role of local conservation efforts in preserving wildlife.

The timely rescue effort was praised by the community for ensuring both human safety and animal welfare.

সোনাইর মেনিপুরে মর্মান্তিক সড়ক দুর্ঘট"নার কবলে ২ ভাই। ঘট"নাস্থলে মৃ"ত্যু ১। বাইক ও ট্যাংকারের মুখোমুখি সংঘর্ষ। জানা গিয়েছে, সোমবার দুপুর সাড়ে ১১টা নাগাদ নতুনবাজার থেকে বাড়ি ফেরার পথে ৩০৬নং শিলচর আইজল জাতীয় সড়কের মেনিপুর তেমাথায় পূর্ত সড়কে ঢুকতেই একটি জলের ট্যাংকার লরির সঙ্গে বাইকের মুখোমুখি সংঘ"র্ষ হয়। এতে ট্যাংকারের চাকায় পৃ"ষ্ঠ হয়ে ঘট"নাস্থলে মৃ"ত্যু হয় মেনিপুর ১ম খণ্ডের বাসিন্দা প্রয়াত সেনা কর্মী চম্পালাল চৌহানের ২য় পুত্র অনিত সিং চৌহান(২১) নামের যুবক। এবং সংক"টজনক অবস্থায় ১ম পুত্র চমন সিং চৌহানকে উদ্ধার করে শিলচর মেডিকেল কলেজ ও হাসপাতালে প্রেরণ করেন স্থানীয়রা।
