In this episode, GUEST HOST Joshua Gabriel (Gabe) McMahon speaks to Jonathon and Hanae about all things coffee! 🤩

Gabe presents a few "Gabe Talks" about the history behind some of our favourite coffee. ☕️ Jonathon explains the sci-fi science behind vibrating molecules. 🧬Hanae looks up how many shots of coffee it would take to kill someone, 💀 and Gabe passes a law involving pouring coffee into a computer. 🧑‍⚖️

Introducing one out of two guests for episode 25: Steven Hartley!

Steven Hartley is a freelance percussionist, multifaceted composer, and educator based in Perth, Western Australia. His strong belief in the inherent good and beauty of music is reflected in the works he creates and seeks out.

Steven has a plethora of ensemble experience with a diverse skillset. He has performed with orchestras such as the Australian Youth Orchestra, West Australian Youth Orchestra, West Coast Philharmonic, and WAAPA Symphonic Orchestra, as well as wind bands such as the West Australian Wind Symphony, and WAAPA Symphonic Wind Ensemble.

Steven is currently studying a Bachelor of Music degree in his 4th year at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, with tutelage from the head of classical music, and percussion inspiration, Tim White. (Bio by Steven, edited by Jonathon)

Introducing one of two guest for episode 25: Gabby (Gabrielle) Lee!

Gabby Lee is a percussion educator, freelance percussionist and composer based in Perth, Western Australia. After her studies at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Gabby now holds a wide range of skills from percussion, composition, electronic music production, facilitating workshops, teaching and orchestral management.

As an active collaborator, she has commissioned and premiered four works by local Western Australian composers. Along with her musical collaborations, Gabby also works with other forms of art such as poetry, visual art, dance and theatre as a composer and performer. Having received the WAAPA Richard Gill Award for one of her own compositions, Gabby's personal works seek to explore a deeper understanding into the human condition and finding direction to hope through storytelling. Her compositions are very much inspired by her Christian identity and is often the drive for the creative projects she pursues. (Bio by Gabby Lee)

They discuss their early composition days, their go to instrumentations, and how they got started. 🎶 Jonathon, Steve, and Gabby review and recount the creation and performance of a composition they created together (Dream Gardens🌼) for the 35th anniversary of Defying Gravity Percussion Ensemble. 🥁

Hanae mentions her love of organs (the instrument), which sparks an awesome organ story from Gabby, and a tragic organ tale from Steve. Jonathon has no organ story, only a story about body organs, which like his appendix, was also removed from this episode...

The duo interview Sam about his experiences starting up WACO (Western Australian Charity Orchestra) at age 18, his favourite video games👾 and soundtracks, and most memorable concerts that has conducted.

Introducing our guest for episode 20: Sam Parry! 🎶🪗✨

Episode 20 drops Friday 29th July at 10am.

Samuel Parry is a Perth-based conductor, multi-instrumentalist and educator. He founded the WA Charity Orchestra (WACO) in 2008 at 18 years of age and is the music director of all its ensembles (the West Coast Philharmonic Orchestra & Chorus, and the award-winning WA Wind Symphony). Sam was awarded the 2017 Pride of Australia Medal and the 2019 ECU Young Alumni Award for his contribution to the community through his work with WACO.

Samuel completed a Bachelor of Music (Hons) in Multiple-Woodwind Performance in 2009, and was the first student to graduate from WAAPA having studied flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone and bassoon in a single performance degree. His research into community and charity orchestras of Australia earned him first-class honours. Sam has recently completed a Masters in Teaching (secondary) at Edith Cowan University.
