Chasing The Call

Well after an unsuccessful attempt to try and get on a goose field for our morning hunt, Amy and I decided to head out to see if we could scratch out a couple of ducks on a warmer afternoon. I had seen birds in this spot the week prior, it was kind of tucked back and not in a normal pool where people hunt so I was hoping they weren't pressured in the morning for the opener.

After navigating the river, we ended up kicking off a couple dozen teal in the strip I had seen birds in perviously. We took a dozen of the HeyDay Teal floaters and a spinner and decided to sit up in the willows. We actually had quite a bit of bird movement for a warm afternoon hunt and got Amy a bird along with Ace getting a couple of retrieves!

I had an incredible weekend meeting the folks from and currently have over 1600 photos to flip through and edit. Lots of laughs, fun dog work and of course some great people! Stay tuned for more pictures

Canadas in the field or over water, what’s your preference? I enjoy watching Ace charge after them in the field. It allows me to snap shots like this showing even then smaller dogs can get after those honkers 👊🏻

Ace and I headed out on a quick solo evening hunt. The temperature was up around 90 degrees, but with reports from a buddy about new birds and a couple hours to get out we made the most of it. We picked up some trash that was left behind by other hunters and made the most of our evening.

We ended up seeing quite a few birds. I used some willows that had previously been cut and made a makeshift blind for me to sit on a bucket while Ace was in his invisilab. I was able to shoot my first few ducks of the year and leave the marsh in better condition than I found it.

We as waterfowl hunters need to be more cognizant of what we are doing. Leaving trash wether it be wrappers, bottles, cans or even shells is unacceptable. These are our grounds and we are extremely outnumbered when it comes to wanting to use them for what we are passionate about. Things like this on private ground cause us to lose opportunities and on public ground it just makes us look like we don't care about the resource we are fortunate to spend time in.

Well we decided to head up north to chase after some Canadas with one of my buddies! We hunted on Saturday and the geese decided to switch feeds, that's part of early season goose hunting. So on Sunday we reset our sights on some different birds that had been hitting a field in both the morning and the afternoon. With the high temps dropping 15-20 degrees we figured they'd be up and flying early and they sure were. We had our first group come in just a couple minutes into legal shooting time while we were still setting up.

They were calling for a NW wind but it ended up staying West the whole morning. Although we had a great hide, the wind caused the geese to slide on us a bit. After some not so great shooting by the boys and working some very nice flocks of Canadas, we were able to scratch out a 4 man limit of honkers.

We had a great weekend putting on a waterfowl seminar for the kids out at a local pheasants forever youth hunt! These kids are the future of hunting and conservation. We talked about what Delta Waterfowl does, decoy strategies, clay shooting and demonstrated some dog work!

Well we kicked off the season with a bang and an interesting story to tell! As I was looking for a place to set up Saturday morning, I heard a swan kick off the water behind me. I was holding Ace's invisilab in my left arm and panned over with my light to see where it was heading. After a bank by the swan I knew it was coming right at me! I braced myself in the mud and used the invisilab as a shield, the swan hit me in flight!

We did contact the local CO to tell him about the incident and he said he would come check in on the swan. After that we were set up and ready to roll! We kicked things off with a few groups of teal and mallards. Both dogs got to put in some work retrieving birds. We ended up with a nice mixed bag of blue and green winged teal, a wood duck and 6 mallards.

I'm still figuring out some of the settings on my new camera, but it captures some great footage when user error isn't messing it up! This hunt was an absolute blast, for my first real duck hunt of the year I couldn't ask for anything more than spending time with my good buddies in the field.

🚨 New Video Alert 🚨

What an action packed day! I was able to shoot my first ever dove limit. There are a lot laughs associated with dove hunting. Watching birds fly around all day, making great shots and quite a few bad ones!

Ace did a lot better on day 2 for us. He retrieved 23 on Saturday, some great marking and a few handles to put him right on em. For lunch on Saturday I made up some dove popper quesedillas that were absolutley delicious. This will be a day I remember for the rest of my life!

🚨 New Video Alert 🚨

Well youguys, I have some exciting news to share! I have joined up with the IHP crew and will be a part of a lease this year in North Central Missouri. In my 15+ years of hunting, this wasn't something I expected myself to do. However, after talking more with the group I decided that it was something I wanted to be a part of.

This property is mainly a traffic/loaf area. There are a couple of different refuges and numerous duck clubs around that not only hunt but also hold birds. By being a part of this, we will have the opportunity to duck hunt clear into late December to bring you some more content! I am super excited for this opportunity and can't wait to share the content and memories we capture this season.

Well we kicked off our first hunting trip of the year in South Dakota. We had originally planned to take this trip last year, but pushed it off a year. I have never been on specifically a dove hunt. It took Ace a little bit of time to figure these little things out, but by day 2 which will be coming out shortly he was on them!

I'm very fortunate to be a part of a trip like this. Part of hunting with new people I enjoy the most is listening to all of the new stories. The hunting was a little bit slow but we made the most of this trip. I look forward to going back next year!
