#067: Al Iaquinta: UFC Fighter to Real Estate Investor
It was a great time talking MMA and Real Estate with "Raging" Al Iaquinta.

I’ve been a huge fan of Al throughout his UFC career, always admiring his team and his blue-collar attitude to MMA. But what has really impressed me, is how smoothly he transitioned from UFC fighter to Professional Real Estate Broker and Investor, at the same time of staying heavily involved in MMA training alongside UFC teammates Aljamain Sterling and Merab Dvalishvili.

Al talks about his transition in this new career path and how having a competitive mindset can drive you to success no matter what you choose to do in life!
· Importance of Goals
· Staying Positive in Hard Times
· How Al got Started in Real Estate
· How Al went from Househacking to being a Real Estate Investor
· How Good Habits from combat sports transition very well into Business

Episode 47: Brad Anastasia: Make Every Day Count.

Brad joins Lawrence to discuss some of his top Principles and Tenants for living a fulfilled life.

At the end of life, the things that will matter most to you are:

The experiences you’ve had.
The people you’ve touched and made proud.
The regrets you’ve had.
Regret from inaction is correlated with fear of death. You have to act whenever you have the chance.

“Time is both long and short. On balance you’ll probably live about 90 years (4,700 weeks, 33,000 days) You can do anything, just not everything. Make every day count.”

Episode 45: Jason Merchey: Values of the Wise

I had a wonderful conversation with Jason Merchey, who has spent the last two decades searching for wisdom: what values and virtues "wise people" tend to be interested in, and how wisdom can play a fundamental role in both improving the lives of individuals ( , ) as well as on a societal level (less tribalism, more critical thinking, fewer extreme positions on religion, politics, etc).

Jason's fourth book is entitled "Wisdom- A Very Valuable Virtue That Cannot Be Bought" where he combines psychological research, philosophical principles, and personal insights.

He also has a website (valuesofthewise.com) where he built a database of thousands of quotes from past thinkers and philosophers.

Greater wisdom leads to improved personal growth, happiness, and success. In fact, the word philosophy is Greek for “the love of wisdom.”

“Wisdom is a Very Valuable Virtue that Cannot be Bought.”

“The real problem of humanity is the following: We have, Paleolithic emotions, medieval institutions, and godlike technology.” (E. O. Wilson)

Episode 44: Nick Lamagna: Is the real estate market about to crash in 2022?

Lawrence is joined by Nick to discuss the real estate market. Since the Fed raised the interest rates 75 basis points last week, and with the highest inflation we have seen in 40 years, the market sentiment has shifted. This also has coincided with a massive “risk-off” trade as investors backed away from equities, commodities and crypto, and the US stock market fell into correction territory. Many investors are taking a wait-and-see approach and there is a lot of uncertainty right now.

Nick has been investing over 15 years and has seen various market cycles at this point. In this episode we go through some of the similarities and more importantly some of the differences we have today, versus in 2008. Is there a real estate crash coming, is it a milder correction or just a brief pause? A month ago was the strongest real estate market in a decade, so it's a very dynamic and hard to navigate environment for investors.

Episode 42: Nick Lamagna: The Continuous Journey towards Mastery in Jiujitsu, Real Estate & Podcasting.

Nick Lamagna juggles being a Real Estate Investor, Brazilian jiu-jitsu blackbelt and host of the A-Game Podcast. But Nick didn’t plan his life this way; when he graduated college he wanted to work in law enforcement to help with counter-terrorism. He scored well on all the tests and thought he was a great candidate for his dream job, until he suffered a permanent hand injury, and was disqualified from the selection process.

This initial disappointment forced Nick to rethink his entire purpose in life. His mom gave him “Rich Dad Poor Dad”, which completely changed his view on making money and having a career. In the last decade, Nick has done almost everything in real estate, constantly evolving and learning along the way.

Every challenge forced growth: Nick initially struggled getting mortgages, so he partnered with other real estate investors. He needed more cash, so he started wholesaling. When the 2008 housing market crash happened, he decided to start flipping homes. And now, Nick has scaled into is going into bigger deals. As he travels in search of real estate opportunities, he is constantly honing his craft of jiujitsu at academies all over the country.

Throughout his varied career in real estate (and also as a podcast host) Nick has evolved into being the consummate professional. Some of the wisdom he shares:
• Always be Learning and Growing
• Think Creatively
• Get Comfortable being Uncomfortable
•Play the Long Game
• Build a Database of Connections
• Communication is Key.

Episode 40: Matt Michalewiczc: Life in Half a Second

It was such a pleasure to sit down with Matt Michalewiczc and discuss his ideas and philosophies from “Life in Half a Second”; one of my all-time favorite books. I have probably given it to more friends than any other book. The main premise of living a life that you truly value, doing the things that you want to do, has profoundly influenced the way I live my life.

Matt has an incredible resume; 20 years of international experience in entrepreneurship, innovation, and success psychology. As a serial entrepreneur he has started four businesses from scratch and sold them for tens of millions of dollars, using his proven formula for creating success. He has established boards that include former heads of state, Nobel Peace Prize winners, and Fortune 500 CEOs.

As an author, Matt has written books on "Winning Credibility", "Puzzle-Based Learning", and "Adaptive Business Intelligence". But it's his "Life in Half a Second", that is, in his own words, his masterpiece; It’s his take on what “success” is. Proven through thousands of studies and decades of research, Matt discusses the five doors you must walk through to achieve success in your career, business, or personal life.

“The tragedy of life isn’t that we only have half a second. The tragedy is that we waste it.”

“If you do what's easy, your life will be hard. However, if you do what's hard, your life will be easy.”

Episode 39: Luke Jensen: Victory Mindset & Fortitude in Adversity

As the creator of The Victory Mindset Luke Jensen’s calling is to help people connect with the deeper meaning of their life’s purpose. He seeks to help people understand the meaning of why you do what we do, and who we truly are, to get a clear vision of our purpose and direction in life and career.

The “Why” is often the crucial element in our story. Victor Frankl survived the horrors of the N**i concentration camps largely due to his often quoted line from Nietzsche: “He who has a why to live for, can bear almost any how.”

Luke’s message is the ultimate one of balance. Nurturing every important pillar so that as a “fatherpreneur” is serving your mission and purpose, living a vibrant energetic love life, setting the right example for your children, being present when you’re with your family, and creating a life that is undeniably yours.

Episode 37: Sam Dogen, AKA The Financial Samurai: How to Spend your Way to Wealth and Freedom.

It was a real pleasure to sit down with Sam Dogen, whose blog, “The Financial Samurai” gives a complete picture of maximizing investing across all investment vehicles – equities, bonds, real estate and other assets, like precious art.

Sam spent over a decade working in corporate finance at Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs, before starting Financial Samurai, one of the top independently owned personal finance sites today.

Sam is just about to release his new book: “Buy This, Not That: How to Spend your Way to Wealth and Freedom”. His goal, after he was able to escape corporate America in his mid-30s and live the life that he has wanted for the past decade, was to write a book that could help other people potentially do something similar. That is both a noble and a realistic aim. The wisdom of deep financial knowledge is a true “life hack” that can benefit us all massively.

“Money is too important to be left up to pontification.”

“Once you achieve a certain level of financial independence, where your passive investment income covers your living expenses, the world opens up.”

“The ultimate goal is to move money into the background so you can stop obsessing over it and start focusing on doing things that matter.”

“The longer you zoom out, the easier it will be to stay the course. After I became a father, I found it easier to invest for the long term because now I was no longer just investing for myself.”

“Time is way more valuable than money! Make sure you make the most of each day.”

Episode 36: Daniel Sih: Spacemaker

Had a great time talking to a kindred spirit, Daniel Sih, who runs a productivity consulting group for entrepreneurs and overwhelmed executives. He is also the author of “Spacemaker: How to Unplug, Unwind and Think Clearly in the Digital Age.”

His message is a forceful but empathetic look at how technology changes our brains, and the simple things we can do to reclaim our humanity, family, and life. Daniel’s work focuses on helping high achievers make space in their world for the things that really matter.

We talk about wealth and the goal to be rich as opposed to look rich. How much wealth do we need and what are the hidden costs of working more to pass on wealth to our children? How to raise children in a world in which they are overwhelmed by the dopamine temptations of too much screen time.

“Technology wears it's benefits on its sleeve, while its drawbacks are buried deep within.”
