French Foreign Legion In Heavy Combat With Taliban In AfghanistanVideo footage from the War in Afghanistan shows fighters of the French Legion in heavy combat with Taliban in Afghanistan.

The scenes show the elite units of the French Foregin Legion in several intense firefights and engagements with Taliban fighters.

The French Foreign Legion (Légion étrangère) is a military branch of the French Army.

Legionnaires are considered highly trained elite infantry soldiers.

What makes the Legion unique is that it is open to foreign recruits willing to serve in the French Armed Forces. French citizenship may be applied for after three years' service.

After joining the French Foregin Legion every recruit will recive a new name and nationality by the Legion. The selection process is notoriously harsh, and only one in nine candidates will be allowed to serve in the French Foregin Legion.

Consequently, training is often described as not only physically challenging, but also very stressful psychologically.

Applicants must be between 17 and 40 years old.
They must be foreign, though this rule is often glossed over. About 16 percent are French nationals who join posing as citizens of other French-speaking countries, such as Belgium or Canada.

The world’s most cosmopolitan military force comprises soldiers from about 140 countries. Recruits tend to come in waves — Germans in the 1940s and ’50s and English-speakers in the 1980s. After the Cold War ended, many volunteers came from Russia and Eastern Europe. They have now been replaced by a surge of applicants from Latin American and Asian nations such as Nepal.

Unlike France’s regular armed forces, the Foreign Legion is a male-only unit. And during the first five years of service, a legionnaire is banned from marrying.

Marines Use MK-19 Gr***de Launcher As Mortar video of Marines using a MK-19 gr***de launcher as mortar.

During OIF the use of mortars was temporarily banned in urban areas. Since the US counter-battery radar would pick up any mortars fired the marines could not even sneakily use them without their higher ups noticing it. So they came up with this little idea of using the MK-19 automatic gr***de launcher as high angle indirect fire support.

The video you see here was recorded during the first time they fired the MK 19 as a mortar.
When they fired the MK-19 as mortar for the first time, everyone scrambled like hell to get under cover because at this point they had no idea if this was going to work. But it worked as you can see in the end of the video.

The man on the gr***de launcher was Will Morrow, Kilo Co. 3/8th Marines.

Ultra Powerful South Korean K9 Thunder Artillery Mass Live Fire vs MountainThis truly awesome and impressive artillery live fire video shows a total of 18 ultra powerful South Korean K9 Thunder Self Propelled Artillery howitzers in action during a mass live fire exercise.

The video features the simultaneous firing of the artillery and the impacts on a mountain aswell.

The K9 Thunder is a South Korean self-propelled 155 mm howitzer designed and developed by the Agency for Defense Development and Samsung Aerospace Industries for the Republic of Korea Armed Forces, and is now manufactured by Hanwha Defense.

K9 howitzers operate in groups with the K10 automatic ammunition resupply vehicle variant. The entire K9 fleet operated by the ROK Armed Forces is now undergoing upgrades to K9A1 standard, and a further development of a K9A2 variant is in process.

In 1980s, the ROK Armed Forces came in need of new artillery system to contest North Korean equipment. The armed forces operated M107 self-propelled gun and K55 self-propelled howitzer; however, they had shorter firing range compared to M-1978 Koksan and were outnumbered by various North Korean artillery. With the success of designing and manufacturing KH-178 and KH-179 towed artillery, and experience gained by license producing K55 (KM109A2), the Ministry of Defense ordered to develop new system that has longer firing range, faster firing rate, and high mobility. The development started in 1989 and was led by the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) and Samsung Aerospace Industries (now Hanwha Defense).

The ADD first offered upgrades on existing K55, inspired by the United States' M109 Howitzer Improvement Program (HIP), but was rejected by the Republic of Korea Army. As a result, the ADD determined to create new weapon system and worked on conceptual model till 1991. Early concept requested by the military includes river crossing capability and installation of M61 Vulcan as anti-air weapon, which were removed due to unnecessity for such long-range weapon.

In 1992, the Ground System Division of United Defense LP (now BAE Systems Land and Armaments) invited members of the ADD for its first M109A6 Paladin release ceremony and expressed interest in participating Korea's self-propelled howitzer program by upgrading K55 to Paladin standard, which was rejected by South Korea.

By late 1990s, internal review showed localization of 107 out of 235 (45.5%) technologies required to build the artillery. After the review, South Korea decided to continue developing domestic main system, main gun, 155 mm ammunition, fire control system, structure, and autoloader. On the other hand, engine, transmission, and INS were chosen to be imported from foreign partners, and license produce hydropneumatic suspension to boost up localization by 70%. The engineers faced biggest challenge on designing main gun and suspension due to lack of experience; while licensing the K55, its main gun was brought as finished product and suspension was produced under knowledge base from the United States.

The turret servo electrohydraulic system is a derive from that of K1 MBT. Automatic fire control system enabled rapid aiming, faster shooting, and improvement to accuracy.

Originally, Air-Log hydropneumatic suspension, which was being used for British AS-90, was chosen for test for license produce, but failed to absorb shock from much bigger 52 caliber gun. Later, South Korea developed domestic hydropneumatic suspension and sold to Britain.

The contract for the K9 artillery system was awarded to Samsung Aerospace Industries on 22 December 1998. The first vehicle was rolled out on 17 December 1999, and was fielded to the Republic of Korea Marine Corps in Yeonpyeongdo.

US Troops Save Babies & Little Children From Chaos At Outskirts Of Kabul AirportFootage shows desperate Afghan parents passing babies and children to US troops in the hope of getting them to safety at Kabul international airport.

Another hearthbreaking clip shows a little baby being passed over to a group of US Marines through a razor wire in an attempt to save it from the Taliban.

There have been further reports of similar events happening around the airport, particularly near the entrance to the Baron hotel
where Afghans wanting UK refuge have gathered.

So far the videos only show scenes from children being handed over to US troops.

Taliban fighters were deliberately preventing civilians from getting into the Airport, even if they had the correct documents to legally travel.

Now, Afghans are desperate to flee, but the only viable means out is through catching a plane from the capital city of Kabul.

This fact is the reason for all the chaos that occured at the airport.

Nigerian Soldiers Storm Boko Haram Positions After Being Heavily Pinned Down In Intense FirefightIntense combat footage from Africa shows Nigerian soldiers storming Boko Haram positions after being heavy pinned down in an intense firefight.

The video was recorded by one of the soldiers cellphone and shows the Nigerian soldiers taking cover while being engaged with heavy machine gun fire and RPGs by Boko Haram fighters.

Despite their situation the Nigerian soldiers step up and begin to charge towards the enemy position through an open field.

While storming the soldiers can be heard saying repeatedly " We will catch them by hand! We will catch them by hand!"

A charge is an offensive maneuver in battle in which combatants advance towards their enemy at their best speed in an attempt to engage in a decisive close combat.

The charge is the dominant shock attack and has been the key tactic and decisive moment of many battles throughout history.

Modern charges usually involve small groups of fireteams equipped with weapons with a high rate of fire and striking against individual defensive positions (such as a concertainer or bunker), instead of large groups of combatants charging another group or a fortified line.

We recived more info about this firefight from a soldier who was there on that day and was willing to share more about this.

The fight with the militants lasted for about 4 hours. The soldiers requested air support from fighter aircraft but got Mi-35 Hind helicopter support instead later.

2 Nigerian soldiers were KIA druing the battle inwhich the Boko Haram /ISWAP militants used up to 20 gun trucks.

The battle was located in Malam Fatori a deserted place with no civilians.

Thanks to AR 9JA who provided the additional info for this battle.
