ZAMBIA RECORDS INCREASED INVESTMENT

September 23, 2023

Zambia's investment inflows in the first two years of the New Dawn Government in office has risen from US$3.31 in 2021 to about US$37 billion in 2023.

From August 2021 to August 2023, Zambia experienced unprecedented investment inflows from all over the globe which are attributed to the high level engagements initiated by President Hakainde Hichilema, the country's Chief Marketing Officer with other world leaders and Business Executives as well as his participation at various business fora around the world.

President Hichilema's economic diplomacy coupled with sustainable macroeconomic fundamentals, debt restructuring, business reforms by Government amidst others, have opened many doors making it easier to attract investors into the country.

In the two-year period since the New Dawn Government took office in August 2021, committed investments registered with the Zambia Develpmemt Agency increased to historical and unprecedented levels registering cumulative committed investments of USD37.0 billion in 2023, from USD 3.31 billion committed investments in 2021.

In 2022 committed investments were USD 8.61 billion and significantly increased to USD 25.02 billion in 2023 for the period January to August.

The energy sector attracted the highest value of investment, followed by manufacturing and construction. Committed investment in the energy sector increased from USD2.0 billion in 2021, to USD16.1 billion in 2023. Similarly, manufacturing investment increased to USD7.7 billion in 2023 up from USD 958 million in 2021.

This is evident of improved investor confidence in the domestic economy arising from an improved investment climate and aggressive investment promotion agenda by the Republican President and his New Dawn Government.

Manufacturing accounted for the highest actualized value of USD4.7 billion, followed by transport amounting to USD965 million and service at USD804.37 million.

THE Police has detained 15 suspects from two groups of skilled house-breakers and recovered an assortment of laptops, mobile phones, Television sets and motor vehicles.

CRISTIANO RONALDO SAYS HE FEELS "BETRAYED" BY MANCHESTER UNITED

(BBC) Cristiano Ronaldo says he feels "betrayed" by Manchester United and is being forced out of the club.

Ronaldo promised in August he would give his version of life at Old Trafford after failing to secure a move away from United to a club playing in the Champions League, as he had hoped.

The veteran Portuguese has now broken his silence in a wide-ranging interview with Piers Morgan for TalkTV.

Manchester United have been asked for a response to Ronaldo's claims.

United, who beat Fulham 2-1 on Sunday, are fifth in the Premier League in manager Ten Hag's first season in charge.

When asked if United's hierarchy were trying to force him out of the club, Ronaldo said: "Yes, not only the coach [Erik ten Hag], but another two or three guys around the club. I felt betrayed."

When quizzed again if senior club executives were trying to oust him, the 37-year-old said: "I don't care. People should listen to the truth.

"Yes, I felt betrayed and I felt like some people don't want me here, not only this year but last year too."

Ronaldo has not played because of an unspecified illness since he captained United in their 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa on 6 November.

He was dropped for the Premier League game at Chelsea last month by Ten Hag after refusing to come on as a substitute against Tottenham three days earlier.

"I don't have respect for him because he doesn't show respect for me," Ronaldo told Morgan. "If you don't have respect for me, I'm never gonna have respect for you."

SAD NEWS: ENOCK MWEPU FORCED TO END PLAYING CAREER.

Enock Mwepu has been forced to end his playing career following the diagnosis of a hereditary heart condition.

The condition, which can worsen over time, would put Enock at an extremely high risk of suffering a potentially fatal cardiac event, if he were to continue playing competitive football.

Club chairman Tony Bloom said, “We are all absolutely devastated for Enock. He and his family have had a traumatic few weeks and while we are just thankful he has come through that period, he has seen such a promising career cut short at such a young age.

“As a club we will give him all the love, help and support we possibly can to make a full recovery, and then as he decides on the next steps in his life.”

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi added, “I am so sorry for Enock. Before I arrived I looked at all the squad, and he was a player I was so excited and looking forward to working with. We will do everything we can to help him.”

Head of Medicine and Performance, Adam Brett explained, “It is a terrible blow for Enock, but he has to put his health and his family first and this is the right choice, however difficult it is to quit the game he loves.”

Enock was taken ill while on a flight to join up with Zambia during the international break and after a period in hospital in Mali he returned to Brighton to undergo further cardiac tests and ongoing care.

These tests have concluded that his illness is due to a hereditary cardiac condition, which manifests later in life and was not previously evident on regular cardiac screening. Sadly this can be exacerbated by playing sport so Enock has been advised that the only option, for the sake of his own safety, is for him to stop playing football.

Adam continued, “Of course, given this is Enock’s career and a decision which can’t be taken lightly we have taken our time to be as thorough as possible, completed advanced cardiac investigations and collaborated with clinical experts to gain the best second opinions for Enock.

“We will be helping him make sure the condition is managed with the appropriate treatment for him to otherwise live a long and healthy life.’”
