"I knew what the Bible said. I totally knew "fearfully and wonderfully made" and all that, but it wasn’t what I knew in my mind that was the problem, it’s what I believed in my heart. And so much of what I believed in my heart was shaped by what happened to me as a child." — Nona Jones on Episode 35, "Killing Comparison"

It is with great sadness that Experience Voices and the Where Ya From? Podcast team learned about the sudden passing of Dr. Carey Latimore (guest for Episode 28: "Juneteenth" and contributor on the recent documentary, "Juneteenth: Faith and Freedom"). In honor of Dr. Latimore, we want to share this clip from the documentary with you. Please join us in praying for his family and others closest to him as they process and mourn while also celebrating a life that impacted so many...including our own host, Rasool Berry.

"Mrs. Latimore remarked that the connection Dr. Latimore and I had on the podcast made it seem as if we knew each other for years. His story describing the importance of his own hometown helped me understand the value of knowing "where ya from" more than any other guest." — Rasool Berry

25/05/2022

From senseless violence in Uvalde, Buffalo, and Laguna Woods to the ongoing war in Ukraine to horrific famines in African and Middle Eastern countries, we cannot make sense of the suffering that plagues our world. Our spirits continue to grow weary, and we join the likes of David as we cry out to our Father (Psalm 4:1, Psalm 6:6, Psalm 10:12).

We ask God, “Lord, how can we hope when our world is so broken?”

We find His answer in Scripture . . .
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

Our loving Father gives us permission to come to Him with our burdens (Matthew 11:28), but He also assures us that in Him lives an unshakeable hope. Though tragedies cast shadows on our world, nothing can stop the light of His impenetrable glory (John 1:5).

So let’s continue to pray through our grief and ask God for peace to flood our world:

Gracious God, our hearts are heavy. We are confused and tired. We are exhausted and overwhelmed by the amount of brokenness in our world. Thank You for listening to our fears and knowing our hearts. Draw near to us as we try to comprehend these senseless tragedies. Assure us that You hear us, and You weep alongside us.

We pray for every person affected by tragedy. From parents and children to entire nations, suffering knows no bounds, but still, God, you are bigger. You are the Great Comforter. Our Refuge. Be close to those who need You.

We pray that You will make helpers of those of us not directly affected. Show us how we can support, love, and aid those whose lives have been forever altered. Let others see Christ through our words and actions.

And we pray for Your radical, perfect peace to overcome the world. Transform sinful hearts and help us walk in love. Heal us. Restore us. Redeem us.

Amen.

Want to continue praying with us? Join us on Our Daily Bread’s Instagram and Facebook Live TODAY at 8 p.m. EST / 5 p.m. PT where we’ll be bringing our grief to God.
