Appeal denied…

The 6th Circuit Court denied Joseph Daniels' appeal for the murder of his son Joe Clyde. His attorney Jake Lockert says he had been contacted by the Innocence Project which may look into the case.

Today… Carla would be 59 years old! She was only able to live what would be nearly one fourth of her life. What would she be like today? Would she be married, have kids, grandchildren, celebrating holidays with her mom & siblings? These are the questions we will never be able to answer.

Unsolved double homicide that took the lives of two young sisters remains unsolved.

Sisters Carla Atkins (14 years old) and Vickie Stout (16 years old) became victims of a double homicide in 1980.

On September 17th 1980 the girls had got out of school and walked to a store called The Furnace to get some snacks. They were seen by a neighbor getting into a blue pick-up truck near the store as they walked to their home.They never returned home.

Their Mother reported them missing. Officers originally thought that the girls had left willingly and would return home in a few days. That thought changed quickly after it was realized that the girls did not carry any belongings with them.

18 days later their remains were found in Lost Creek, a wooded area in Land Between the Lakes. This area is about 10 miles from where the girls lived.

They were discovered by two Hikers walking the area on October 5th 1980. When the Police arrived they found the girls in shallow graves about 75 feet apart.

The Autopsy results showed that both of them died from the result of being shot with a 12 gauge shotgun. They could not determine if the girls had been sexually assaulted prior to being murdered. It is believed that they were murdered in the same area they were found.

Stewart County Sheriff Hicks, traveled to Paris, TN in October 1980 to see if there could be a connection between the double homicide and the unsolved rapes in Paris, TN.

The FBI was asked to join the investigation in 2015.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Stewart County Sheriff's Office at 931-232-3114. The TBI would like the assistance of the public in locating the individual believed to have been driving the truck. Anyone with information about the case or believing they may have information about the man pictured in the composite sketches should contact the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
