Uniquely Texan is a category in which we try to define the Texas spirit when it comes to Christmas lights. Some of it is using native plants or cactus, while some is in the lighting or decorations. It's a broad and large definition like the great state. This is sponsored by Rivenburgh Wine

After driving all over Kerr County, we're finally at the end of the 2024 Kerrville Public Utility Board Christmas Lights Tour, and now it's time to choose the winners of this year's contest.

The tour included photographing more than 600 homes and businesses across Kerr County. We know we couldn't reach every destination with lights this year, but we also visited places we've never stopped by before.

The beauty of this tour is that it should encourage you to get out and see the joy of the season, and you may have a favorite we missed. It's a lot of fun to put on some Christmas music and drive around a bit.

As usual, certain streets knocked it out of the park with their decorations. Some of those streets include the folks on Manor Drive, the neighborhood of Greenwood Forest, and the new Ridgeland community near Tivy High School and Peterson Middle School. There are also plenty of delightful light displays on Oak Hollow and in "The Woods."

We will select our winners by the number of likes and loves on each photo. We will begin posting the nominees tonight. We will cut off voting at 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 23 and announce the winners via our website on Christmas Eve. The categories are:

Best of Show Sponsored by KPUB
Best use of the Nativity Sponsored by Vecino's
Most reverent
Best use of color Sponsored by Mattress World
Best use of whimsy Sponsored by Ken Harris
Best use of inflatables
Best use of white lights
Best use of Christmas Vacation Sponsored by George and Judy Eychner
Best use of the Grinch
Best use of Santa Claus
Uniquely Texan Sponsored by Kerrville Hills Winery
Best use of Architecture Sponsored by SLS Partnership
Best use of trees
And for 2024, we're adding a special category — Best Business Decorations sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.

We make our fourth annual tour of Christmas Lights across Kerr County.

We wrap the 2024 season of The Lead Live with a thoughful discussion about the meaning of Christmas with Rev. Bert Baetz of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and Rev. Monica O'Donnel of First United Methodist Church. We'll have a special musical performance. After today's show The Lead Live returns for its fifth season Jan. 6, 2025.
