"I Did My Best For Nigeria" - Buhari

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), said he had done his best to serve Nigeria. He also prayed that his successor would continue the journey of making Nigeria one of the world’s leading countries by 2100.

“I welcome and accept both the accolades and criticisms in equal measure, secure in the conviction that I did my best to serve our dear country Nigeria and I pray that the next President will also pick up the baton and continue the race to make Nigeria one of the leading countries of the world by the end of this century,” Buhari said in his New Year message on Saturday.

He also appealed to Nigerians to avoid being used by some politicians to foil smooth elections. Rather, he said every citizen must participate in ways that ensure free and fair elections.

Buhari said, “We, as Nigerians, must also take responsibility to ensure we participate in ensuring that the 2023 elections are free and fair by not engaging in anti-state activities and other nefarious acts that may affect the run of the polls.

“We must also resist every attempt to be used by politicians to create unrest in any form to disrupt the elections. We, as government will ensure such activities are met with the full force of the law.”

I am one of 62 people in the whole world and very likely the only African to have co-founded two unicorns – Andela and Flutterwave. I am grateful to my country, Nigeria. I have repeatedly said that in no other country on earth would my story have been possible.

I am not a caucasian male. I’m just barely 30 years old. I wasn’t born into old money. My parents are humble clergy – the son of a butcher and the daughter of clergy who worked their way up. It is only through prayers, hard work and the favour of God we have come this far.

Can anything good come out of Nigeria? Well yes – this is our testimony. We produce unicorns.

Iyinoluwa Samuel Aboyeji (born March 28, 1991) is a Nigerian entrepreneur. He is a co-founder of Andela, and was the former managing director of Flutterwave. Aboyeji was cited as one of the Top 100 most influential Africans by New African magazine in 2019.

In the black community, New Year’s Day used to be widely known as 'Hiring Day' or 'Heartbreak Day', because enslaved people spent New Year’s Eve waiting, wondering if their owners were going to rent them out to someone else, thus potentially splitting up their families. The renting out of slave labor was a relatively common practice in the antebellum South, and a profitable practice for white slave owners and hirers.”

Expel me, see if you will survive – Wike dares PDP
Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has dared the Official Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Nigeria to expel him and face the consequences.
Wike threw down the gauntlet while he was flagging off a new road in Rivers State.
He said: “In 2003 when President Olusegun Obasanjo wanted to run for a second tenure―a whole president wanted to run for a second tenure he knelt down before his vice and said, ‘my vice, please, allow me to run.’
“You know one of the conditions he gave him? That Tony Anenih must be sacked as the Minister of Works and that Tony Anenih must not be in the presidential campaign council. Obasanjo obliged and sacked Tony Anenih as the Minister of Works and removed him from the presidential campaign council.
This is a president and his own vice giving him condition, a retired General knelt down and was given conditions.
“We (G5) are not even doing that; we are not saying sack this one, we are only saying that the constitution of our party must be respected based on what the national chairman said and based on what you told me in my house.”
The governor then dared the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to expel him from the party, saying “try and see how you will survive it.”

2023: God Will Determine Next President, Not G5 Governors - Okowa

Okowa said if some of the G5 governors decide to support APC, others will remain with the PDP, “because there will be division among them.”

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta and Vice Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Friday, said that God would determine Nigeria’s next president and not the G5 governors.

“God has said it that we, the PDP, will win this election. Many things may be happening now and people may be asking what about the G5 governors.

“These governors are our brothers; everybody is important. But what God has said will happen, nobody can change it.

“So even if some of them decide to support APC, some will still remain with us because there will be division among them.

“The real truth is that I have strong political eyes and I have observed that no matter what they do, PDP will win the forthcoming election, by the grace of God.

“It is only the power of God that can help us to win. So, no matter what the G5 said that they would work with APC or any other party, we will win,” he said.

The police in Ogun on Friday arrested two brothers, Ayomide Babatunde and Gbenga Babatunde who allegedly lured a woman and her nine-year-old son for ritüal. The suspects were subsequently arrested following information received at the Oja Odan Divisional Police Headquarters.

According to Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the intel revealed the brothers were negotiating to sell humans, either in parts or alive, depending on what the buyer wanted, for money ritüal.

The supposed buyer, Jacob Olorunto had informed the Baale of the community, who, in turn, tipped off the police and detectives advised Olorunto to play along.

On 27th December 2022, the suspects called their supposed buyer and informed him that they had a woman and her son for sale, leading to a negotiation of N600,000 price for the two persons.

On 29th, one of the brothers, Ayomide went to Ilaro and invited his 45-year-old woman friend, Taye Oluwole, to follow him to Oja Odan with her son to celebrate New Year with his father.

The woman innocently agreed and along the road, they stopped to pick up his brother, Gbenga, the second suspect.

G-5 Govs: ‘I’m Elephant, I Can’t Be Taken By Surprise,’ Says Atiku

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has described himself as an elephant, saying he can not be taken by surprise from the G-5 governors of the PDP.

Atiku said that anyone that plans to stop him from achieving his political ambition, should first make himself the president of Nigeria.

The former vice president equally noted that he was not perturbed by plots of five aggrieved governors, popularly known as G-5 governors, to endorse presidential candidates of their choice.

He stated that he is an elephant that has seen everything, noting that he cannot be taken by surprised by the aggrieved governors.

Atiku, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, said any person boasting of having such powers to stop his presidential bid, should first make himself president.

His words: “Atiku will be president. Whether the c**k crows or not, the sun must rise. Power belongs to God Almighty; no man can arrogate to himself the powers of God Almighty. Any man who can boast of stopping Atiku should first make himself president of Nigeria.

“Atiku is an elephant. Even when an elephant walks on thorns, it does not limp. And when you have seen a snake, it cannot bite you anymore. In this case, we have seen the snake, how can we be taken by surprise?

PDP Crisis: How G-5 Alliance May Affect Makinde’s Second-Term Bid

The second term bid of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is being threatened by the continued insistence of the G-5 governor to work against former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Makinde is the only first-term governor among the quintet – Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Samuel Ortom (Benue).

Although Ortom, Ugwuanyi and Ikpeazu are seeking senatorial seats, Makinde’s ambition is the most threatened considering the dynamics of Oyo politics.

The state is controlled by many political gladiators that it is difficult for a single politician to be the major determinant in an election.

Makinde won the 2019 election on the strength of a coalition of gladiators who wanted to oust the then-ruling APC and stop late Abiola Ajimobi from installing a successor.

Despite Makinde’s insistence on not supporting Atiku, some leaders of the PDP in the state, including a former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Wole Oyelese, and a former Minister of State for FCT, Chief Olajumoke Akinjide, have all declared support for Atiku.

An Ibadan-based political affairs commentator, Rasheed Olanrewaju, said if not well-managed, the opposition might take advantage of the crisis in the PDP to take over the state.

“Seyi and his advisers need to think through their actions. It is a dicey situation. If Tinubu wins the presidential election, the momentum might favour APC in the state, especially those PDP leaders working for Atiku who might work against the governor to pay him back.

“If Atiku wins without Seyi’s support, it is also dicey because the APC candidate, Teslim Folarin still enjoys a good relationship with some leaders in the PDP, where he was until 2017. So they can decide to work for him and negotiate his return to the party after the poll, ensuring PDP still controls the state. Some PDP stalwarts are already campaigning for him,” he said.
