Chimpanzees are known to have very good memories. They especially remember those who have come to their aid in the past. This faculty of memory was immortalized on a video which shows Wounda, one of the 160 chimpanzees rescued by the Center for the Rehabilitation of Chimpanzees of Tchimpounga in Congo, at the time of his release in the wild state by the English primatologist Jane Goodall.
Just before reaching the thick vegetation of the island, Wounda walks over to Dr. Jane Goodall and hugs her in a gesture that seems to convey deep gratitude and a gesture of farewell.
This image is also unforgettable for all the volunteers of the Jane Goodall Institute, whose objective is precisely to set free the chimpanzees who are victims of poaching.
