The kaperosas are vengeful spirits. They haunt the locales of their untimely deaths and can only be released if those who are responsible for their demise end at the ghost's own talons. An interesting note about this piece is that its original version was not bloody enough for our consulting spirit medium who says they always appear covered in blood when they see them.

is the Angogolood's favorite holiday. The ambush predator lunges forward to grab trespassers in its swamp. As it grapples, it drains the victim's life, turning them into trees bearing their anguished faces in the bark.

Witches that seperate from their bodies, trailing their innards are found throughout SEA. This version is our undead interpretationf from Indonesia - the leyak. Other names of this creature are Krasue in Thailand, Ahp in Cambodia; Kasu in Laos; also as Kuyang, Pelasik, Pelesit, or Penanggalan in Indonesia; Penanggal in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and Singapore; anananggal in the Philippines; and Ma'lai in Vietnam

The tiktik is one of the 5 aswangs presented in the Bestiary. These are one of the more powerful subspecies of the monstrosities. Like the True Aswang, tiktiks can bestow the inaswang kulam upon its victims. If the curse isn't identified in time, the person becomes a yanggaw aswang.

The hiwagas are powerful nature spirits. They are venerated by local mortals and can even act as warlock patrons. This is another template for beasts and plants. Until the tomawo or pinadings, this is a very beefy modifier. This image shows the template applied to a giant binturong - an indigenous species to the Philippines. Rules for the beast will be found in our Misc. Creatures appendix of the Bukana Bestiary.

Back-to-back Brian Valeza. For newcomers to Secret Garden Games, here is the cover of our first print on demand book: Heroes of WakeSong (5e). I'm not sure if I ever explained this piece even during the Kickstarter campaign. Each piece in that book was illustrated by an extremely talented artist from appropriate real-world cultures for the inspiration of the subclasses within. We ordered concept sketches from the 4 artists who brought us the Eagle Warrior, Immortal, Stoneclad, & Brood Mother. These were given to Brian for reference.

If you're interested, the 5e version is available digitally & print-on-demand at DriveThruRPG (link in bio). We will also provide updated versions for OneDND and Paizo's ORC license once those are released.

Karl tells me that the Tiyanak appear in Filipino legend in a number of ways. I was only familiar with the popular undead babies as those found in . Another version is this little darling: a small monster than can take the form of babies. Just like babies, sometimes they want to play, sometimes they're hungry, sometimes they want to play with their food.

The winged shark exists in the folklore of the Philippines. As terrifying as such a predator is, I was concerned about how visually exciting a shark with wings would be. So I sent it to Gladys, knowing that she would find a clever design... spoiler: she did. The subtending winglets and fins as fine-shaped feathers took a straightforward concept and made it visually compelling.

The Ngepet are a species of porcine humanoids. Their culture is centered around the worship of the Demon Boar, a powerful fiendish deity. Through its blessing, they can temporarily change into a boar - an ability that they often use to their larcenous advantage. Another "monster" that is also a playable PC species.

The amanhig will not rest until it has completed its task. Whether that's building a bridge or wiping out an entire lineage. Their elbows and knees don't bend, but they are faster than most humanoids. Try not to stay up too late thinking about how freaky that looks.

The huniago chameleons of Bukana look like large lizards, but are actually small dragons. They can turn invisible at will and usually remain hidden. However, once they are attacked or their numbers grow too large, they are no longer just a nuance.

The Busaw are creatures found throughout the Philippines and with numerous descriptions. "Busaw" is a creature subtype for monstrosities in the Bestiary, just like the aswangs with whom they have a mutual hatred. The first of our busaw is the Shadow Busaw. These are corpse-eaters who hide invisibly in trees near graveyards. Their rudimentary society favors tattoos made from the ashes of the cremated which form a shadowy emulation of local humanoid patterns.

One of the most well known and iconic creatures of the Philippines is the manananggal aswang. The Bukana Bestiary will have at least 5 types of aswangs including this self-segmenter.
The following book will be a Bukana Guide which will offer a warlock the option of making a deal with Lord Aswang, the mortal servant of an evil god, to even become an aswang themselves.

In the south of Bukana is a cluster of allied city-states called the Amethyst Sultanates. Here, the population has largely converted to the foreign Amethyst Church. This religion is inspired by pre-Islamic Iranian religion. They have brought many of their knightly orders with them to the isles. That includes those who ride the karkadann's of Middle Eastern myth. Some have escaped into the wild becoming large and aggressive in the abundance of Bukana. In fact, their immunity to poison allows them to feed on the prolific monstrosities of the land, so they are not an unwelcome addition.

In the Players' Appendix of the Bestiary, we'll have rules to include them as mounts as well.
