Curious about your dreams? What do they mean? Is there a function to dreaming? Why do we dream?

My guest this week, Kathleen Duffy shares her wisdom of the dream world. She explains how dreaming allows our creative right-side brain to kick into action when the busy, egoic left-brain is off-duty!

Wishing you all a wonderful Easter break.

If you have time to listen to one podcast this spring break, let it be this episode of the Journeying podcast with the fantastic Ali Sheridan. Out in the morning.

Maybe climate change is not really of interest to you right now. But if there is one person to reasonably explain that climate action is all of our concern, it is Ali Sheridan. Straight-talking, factual information that can only make us sit up and take notice.

Change is coming. Do we have time to manage the change strategically? Or will we allow ourselves to walk into an irreparable crisis over the next decade?

Ever heard me mention Willam Glasser's choice theory psychology?

I've been studying it for the last couple of years and it has been a gamechanger for me. Do you know when something intuitively makes sense? That was Choice Theory for me. It is a sound blueprint by which to live your life.

So this week I am honoured to chat with Norah Finn, Psychotherapist and Senior Faculty Member at the William Glasser Institute Ireland. We share some of our key learnings and stories about how we can use choice theory in our daily lives and relationships.

Out in the morning on the Journeying podcast:

- The insanity of motherhood in the 21st century for working women
- Current society and workplace has been slow to adapt to the changing needs of employees with young families
-Our childcare routines for full-time working parents are just not conducive to a healthy family lifestyle
-Busy, tired mothers of young children do not have the time or energy to be at the decision-making tables (in their current format)
-There is currently less than 25% female representation in the Irish Government
-When women leave their work to raise children, they lose their financial independence and become economically vulnerable
- Insufficient recognition or remuneration for care work carried out in our society
-We need to challenge archaic systems and modes of operation that no longer serve all of society
-The provision of a state-funded, quality childcare system for all children would help achieve gender parity
- Equal partnership with a similar division of labour is as good for romantic partnerships as it is for a business relationship

Are you just not that interested in politics?
Not interested in:
mental health?
health care?
childcare?
taxation?
Well unfortunately our disinterest or maybe despondency in politics can work in others favour - "that disconnect suits an agenda"

This week's talk with Seana O' Rodaigh was a real wake-up call for me. Many problematic issues in our country are not being addressed as it is the same demographic and cohort of politicians occupying space at the table. I believe childcare has not been adequately addressed, as there are not enough women sitting at that decision-making table.

Research shows that globally women carry the majority of the childcare 'burden'. Therefore women are more impacted by insufficient state-funded childcare. More women opt to reduce their working hours or leave careers altogether to raise children. This leaves women financially vulnerable, financially dependent, and less wealthy than their male counterparts.

And with less than 25% female representation in government, such female-oriented issues are perhaps not being prioritised. As it currently stands, an elected female government representative is not even entitled to maternity leave, so it is not inconceivable that other female-lensed issues are being overlooked.
