I once too believed the lie. A lie that could consume you if you feed it.

You’ve probably heard a fellow mom say the exact words. Or maybe you’ve said them yourself.

“You lose yourself as a mom”

And if your a mom already, your probably agreeing that you have felt this way. Let me jump in, I HAVE TOO. But I think that’s because we desperately need to change the way we view this idea. And we need to change the way we pass this on to new moms.

When we think about all that comes with having and raising a child, and how drastically your life changes. there’s a slim chance that someone would ever be the exact same person after becoming a mother. Hear me out…this doesn’t have to be a NEGATIVE thing.

This is a BEAUTIFUL thing. As I’ve challenged myself to really dig deep in this, I can easily say I would never want to be the person that I was before my babies. That version of myself was who I was supposed to be, THEN. Now I’m a mother. I am different in so many ways.

So it’s safe to say that change is necessary when we become mothers. That change doesn’t have to be losing ourselves, but it should be us becoming the newer, more nurturing, wiser versions of ourselves. (Not mom brain wise, but wisdom that comes from experience).

This isn’t to say that it’s not going to take some time. This is a process. And I think that’s where the “lost”mentality can come from. Because that old version of ourself is gone. We are learning who this new person is, while raising another soul (or multiple). It may take time to find new interests or hobbies, because we probably went through seasons where all we did was care for our babies.

We are growing, maturing, and blossoming into the mothers that God created us to be.

If your a newly pregnant mother OR seasoned mama, I want you to think about what your feeding your soul. If your stuck in the idea that you are now lost, I encourage you to think about the growth and maturity that your experiencing, and how this CHANGE is making you an even more beautiful version of yourself. Give yourself lots of grace, you are doing an incredible job 🌸
