UPDATE: Waterfall Troop “Big Push” Feedback: 18 October to 24 October 2022

The troop slept in the natural space for 4 of 7 nights this week. On one occasion the baboons roosted on the roofs of buildings on Main Road. The remaining 2 nights the troop slept either at Waterfall Barracks or split between Waterfall Barracks and the mountain.

The rangers managed to keep the troop in the mountain areas around SANAD from 16 October until midday on 22 October when the baboons managed to bypass the rangers and move down towards the urban space. The rangers attempted to encourage the troop back up the mountain but were met with limited success. The troop subsequently slept at Waterfall Barracks that evening. The following morning the troop entered the urban area around Waterfall Barracks and subsequently moved down towards the Main Road. The rangers were quite successful in keeping the baboons out of the Main Road area during the day but despite the best efforts of the staff, the troop roosted on the roofs of buildings along Main Road that evening.

The following morning the troop was moved away from the Main Road towards Waterfall Barracks. This helped to reduce their access to waste bins that were awaiting collection on the Main Road, however they did access domestic waste from non-baboon proofed bins in the residential streets behind Main Road. This made it difficult for the rangers to encourage the baboons out of the urban space. That evening the majority of the troop slept on the mountain, however a few individuals slept on the roofs of the Waterfall Barracks.

Dogs🐕 & Baboons🐒
There are often fears expressed that baboons will 'attack' your dogs. This is really not the case.
Please read this brochure, kindly shared by BOTS (Baboons Of The South) which explains about dogs and baboons and what you should know and do, whenever possible, if you live within a baboon range and are dog owners.
Please share and talk to your neighbours. It is the best way to educate and help your your neighbourhood the collaborative way.

We are super stoked to invite multi-talented Tonia Moller onto the False Bay Folk stage next week Tuesday 🤩 Not only is she performing her own set, but we can expect her to join Robin's!

Tonia Moller

In 1983 she started the first Alternative Afrikaans/English band Khaki Monitor with WIllie Saayman.Performed in various musicals throughout the 80’s, and 1989 she toured South Africa as ‘Karla Krimpelene’, backing vocalist for the Gereformeerde Blues Band on the legendary Voelvry tour. Did backing vocals and percussion for James Phillips, Rodriguez, Bright Blue, Robin Auld, Lionel Bastos, Dax Butler and many others as well as forming her own girl band, The Pressure Cookies back in the late 90’s for a brief but fabulous few years. These days shes a documentary editor but still perform music shows when she can.
