Better question: why wouldn't you want to be a dragon?

Happy New Year! We're back and aiming to try something a little different in 2024.

We're in the business of telling stories...
So why not share some storytelling?

This is part 1 of a 5 part story entitled "The Thankful Plague." Come back tomorrow for part 2 (or wait til Friday and then binge the whole thing.)

Let us know what you think.
And welcome to storytime!

This one is a classic.

And with that - we're going on a little break. You won't see many posts from us the rest of the month as we take time off to celebrate Christmas.

We'll be back in January (and thinking about trying some new things at that point.)

In the meantime, we hope you all have a wonderful holiday season. See you in 2024.

Not sure how I stumbled across this one, but if you're in the market for bookish gifts -- maybe go.check out The Note Bags.

I'm pretty sure I have some of these same saying in wall art form (Hm, maybe I should get them put up...)

But yeah, just sharing some fun, pretty, bookish art in the form of bags and phone cases today. Enjoy.

I'm not great with dates and places. But tell me a story, and I'll learn. What have you learned via story?

❤️ Love love love this tagline from a nearby bookstore ❤️ Used Books. New Magic.

Haven't made it up into Cincy lately, but when we do, we're visiting Household Books. We'll keep you posted.

(Meanwhile, if you've been there, tell us about it in the comments.)

Opinions about used books as gifts - and go!

There are some people on my Christmas list for whom I buy new books, and there are others who like or even prefer used books. Depends on what titles they're looking for, mostly.

So, when I saw this lovely set of HP books-- and then saw them again a few weeks later-- I was kind of surprised no one had snapped it up as a gift. (There was also a ✨️pristine✨️paperback box set. So maybe that one will disappear first.) I would if someone on my.list was looking for them.

The last pic is a tiny book I did pick up, simply because I love the idea of tiny stocking stuffer books, too. (Not that I know anyone looking for this book in particular, so it went on my shelf.) I'll have to let you know how readable that format is later.

This seems like a fitting post for the end of November.

I know NaNoWriMo was...let's just say A MESS... this year. But for any of you who kept going, kept writing, kept working toward that 50k wordcount goal this month (probably without the NaNo label anymore) -- this post is for you. Because somehow--despite everything--a book! And that's awesome!

Feel free to share your successes (or maybe frustrations) in the comments.

When you ask your child "What would you like to do this afternoon?" And the answer is "Go look at books." ❤️📚❤️

So, here, look at some pretty books with us.

The material these covers are made of--a soft faux leather I think-- 😍
And a new book about books/stories which is always sure to catch my eye.

Happy Small Business Saturday!

Just a friendly reminder that you can order books directly from us. The only way to get a signed copy. 📚 📚Or if you want the whole series, we had fun adding wax seals to our sets. 📚📚 (Don't worry, no books were harmed with hot, melty wax. Promise.)

Many other authors and small presses have options to buy direct, too. Go check them out and support your favorites today.

⬇️ Comment below ⬇️ with all the small businesses and authors we need to know about today.

We didn't go out to participate in any of the big black Friday shopping today. BUT, maybe if a book nook like this was in the budget, it would be a different story.

In the meantime, we'll curl up at home in our own little reading corners with a good book.

How would you design your reading space? What are your must-haves when you settle in with your book?

Resharing this awesomeness from Gloria Coles Flint Public Library.

National Read a Book Day was a couple months ago, but this is too great to not share (and not really limited to a specific day.)

Who else walks out of the library looking like this?

Another Half Price Books visit. And this time I'm showing you all the things we didn't get and why. (I mean, other than the fact that our poor bookshelves are set to explode already.)

First up, The Chronicles of Krystonia. We actually already own this one. Found it years ago, picked it up just based on how pretty an artifact it is. Never really expected to see another copy if I'm honest.

The Woad to Wuin is book 2 in a series. Book 1 was alright, but this would be a ways down the TBR, so it went back on the shelf.

Next a Bradbury title. And Dave McKean (the illustrator) has a distinct style. So really, I was looking at the art. Pretty sure we have the story on our shelves already.

Then we have a Firefly book that I didn't even know existed. The binding is gorgeous! Left it there because someone is probably actually looking for it.

And last, a middle grade sci- fi caught my eye. The Jupiter Pirates. I think this one may have actually come home with us. But when I snapped the picture, I was thinking I wanted to look up the author and see all his books. Because there's a good chance this is a series.

SO -- if you're still with me after all that 😆 -- what criteria do you use when you're out book shopping/browsing? How do you decide what comes home with you and what goes back on the shelf?
