Personal take on this phenomenon: Whether you call it toxic empathy or suicidal empathy it’s the same phenomenon, altruism. In my opinion this is the flaw in the West’s moral code. It’s in the fine details of the meaning of this word where we find the great divide of the world. This misunderstanding / misapplication of the word goes across political divides. One group defines this word as a simple call for oneself to give back or give to the larger community. The other wields it as a weapon against society to sacrifice others for whatever they believe is worthy. It uses your guilt of wanting to be seen as a good person against you. It manipulates you to sacrifice yourself to them.
It uses percieved moral superiority as an unspoken currency in their cult. To them the more you sacrifice the more morally superior you are. It generates a society that is in a race to the bottom. The more downtrodden and loathsome you are the more moral you are. It is a death cult. It sacrifices the best of us to the worst of us.
They will sacrifice you to their misunderstanding of intent, this is why calls of racist, sexist, xenophobic, n**i work on those who dont see the manipulation. They use these words as tools manipulate or to get you to sacrifice yourself, your argument, your ideas, your status, or whatever else they are demanding as payment to their moral ego. All for the pleasure of sacrificing you to their cause.
The moral underpinnings of society/religion/Christianity use Altruism as the highest moral calling you can have. The difference is the voluntary altruism of the individual vs the forced “self” sacrifice compelled or manipated upon you by others.
Unfortunately, many in the second group can’t sacrifice enough to make up for the moral hole they have inside them. This includes sacrificing others to their cause. To them it’s not a simple disagreement on what is best, it’s forced compulsion that is required. It’s fear, envy, or resentment for those better off than themselves and others. It’s not live and let live, it’s genuine hatred against those who wont sacrifice in the way they demand. Example #1: Covid crazies.
Robin Hood didn’t steal from the rich and give to the poor. He took back from government that which was taken by tyranny. Because of the miss application of the meaning of Robin Hood, Robin Hood must die. The idea of altruism as the highest moral standard must die or be clearly defined to prevent its ongoing perversion. Without clearing this up society will always fall for this trap, or this intentional equivocation of a word that society holds in its highest regard.
Using your time to help others is not inherently altruistic when you value that person more than your time. That is not an altruistic sacrifice, it’s a trade, value for value. I value my friend or family more than I value my time. I would classify myself as more of a trader of value than an altruist.
Feeding a neighbors starving baby is not a sacrifice, because I value the baby over the food, But,feeding a neighbors starving baby while I let mine die is exactly what I mean by altruism must die. This is the immigration argument. This is why people and politicians stealing from some and giving to others is not a morally tenable situation. On a plane you first put the oxygen mask on yourself before helping children and others. You can’t continue to force people to pay into a system that hates them and actively works for their demise.
Trump, as imperfect has he might be was the only option to right these wrongs. If anything, I feel like I’m being played because he has enacted almost every policy the Democrats espoused in 2008 by Obama and Hillary. The left hates him but the country didn’t leave the left, the left crossed out of classic liberalism and onto hardcore Marxist/ Socialist / Comminist ideology. Maybe intentionally, I’m not sure , but at this point they are irrational, illogical, and extremely dangerous. They just want someone to pay, whether that is with death, destruction, or subjugation is unclear. The ultimate end of this is they are a death cult. They dont believe in the individual, they actually hate and fear the idea, and are willing to lie cheat and steal to control it all.
