Why does the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation fund this great work in BC? Here's Dan Buffett, CEO of the HCTF explaining that climate action is more than just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
This week on The Cookie Jar, My Grandfather's Cat, an exceptional Canadian organization that advocates for people in vulnerable situations who need to get their beloved cats rehomed. In this short clip, the co-founder Angela Rafuse explains how shelters in Canada also do great work finding homes for cats and dogs, definitely true of my own local shelter, the North West Animal Shelter, near Smithers, BC. Two wonderful groups, working on parallel paths on behalf of companion animals.

Angela Rafuse is the co-founder of a nifty organization called My Grandfather's Cat, offering assistance to Canadian cats who suddenly need a new home. Consider the aging grandparent who’s about to move to a retirement home or the person who’s just been given a terminal illness prognosis, and they have a cat that needs rehoming, sometimes on very short notice. What to do? In Canada, you can call My Grandfather’s Cat for assistance!
This short video is Angela introducing her co-founder, Mackenzie.

Sea turtles! Now, that’s a neat topic, but how does it affect me? I may live in remote, interior BC, but I can still have a very damaging effect on sea turtles. From my food choices to my sun screen, how I decorate and whether I recycle, it can easily affect creatures thousands of kilometres away.
My guests Carla Laarhoven, Ashton Williams and Jepson Prince—from the organization AB Sea Turtle Awareness Group—are going to offer some simple suggestions that will have a huge impact.

Sea turtles are such magnificent beings. I'm glad I can do something to make their long lives more comfortable.
The polarization of society affects even the bee community, where some people argue that, to misquote George Orwell, 'all bees are equal, but some are more equal than others'...
This week, part two of The Red Umbrella, with Cybèle Lesperance. Cybele resides in France and is an outspoken sex worker activist and a pro-rights feminist. And together, Cybele and I are going to continue our conversation around stigma, cllichés and morality, and the need to find strategies to survive in a capitalist world, one of those being sex work.

Love is a Four-Legged Word. Your first thought is going to be cats and dogs, right? There are other four-legged friends, one of which has a bad reputation that needs to be addressed. That friend is a rat. Amanda Frost and Forest Higgins of the Vancouver Rat Club are going to help me try to convince you of just how terrific rats are. I want to give a big shout out to Dexter's Creature Comforts for connecting me with Amanda and Forest!
Rats have done humans many kindnesses, so I think it’s only fair that I dedicate an episode to returning the favour. Rats in the cookie jar? Lucky us!

A Book Bag and a Pair of Socks. That’s how it started for Charlie Burrell, in Moncton NB. Charlie noticed an increase in the number of hungry and homeless in his town, and he began feeding them in a parking lot. Today, his organization The Humanity Project offers food and shelter, with an eye to also providing help for addictions and mental health supports in future. And its all done through community donations.
Today's is the first of a two-part episode, and the third in a larger series on homelessness in Canada.
