digital review copies of Evan Kennedy's "Jerusalem Notebook" now available! send us an email at [email protected] if interested

"Evan Kennedy's Jerusalem Notebook is the best thing i read all month bc evan is one of those writers whose work has a blueprint i can marvel at yet not understand. capable of inhabiting worlds and unspooling sentiment in a way so alien and so beautiful to me as to be magic. i can't write any classicism that isn't britney spears but evan's is heretical; its gravity and mysticism as incidental as its fickle 21st century feeling. its cadence serving masochistic deflation as much as the urgency of being taken and who doesn't love that." -quote THE Trisha Low, friends

happy reading, as always,

Earplugs can’t suppress the sneakers squeaking around me— The skinny wrists of the meek, resigned Christ in his crown and robe— Are these demands to be fulfilled in a present calm. I appear serene but there’s a battle of resemblances within me. A blank melody quieting toward completion— Christ emerg...

R.I.P Barney Rosset, the man who did more to change literature than anyone else we can think of. He brought us Sade, Genet, Lady Chatterly's Lover, Kerouac, Burroughs, Beckett, I Am Curious Yellow, the Evergreen Review, and Grove Press. No body else like him.

As editor Allen Edwin Butt wrote earlier, "I don't think I know a single poet writing today who doesn't owe a large part of his or her sense of artistic freedom (the freedom to dig into the best and worst parts of human experience) to Barney Rosset. We can only hope for more brave souls like his."

He dedicated his life to fighting for free speech and for great books. You will be sincerely missed, my friend.

In Review: Jean Day "Early Bird" O'clock Press

cheers to Lisa Cattrone for this review of Jean Day's "Early Bird," up January 1st over on The Volta

http://www.thevolta.org/inreview-mainpage.html

Never a pun, only the psychic markers of, no hero of the epic, only the feathered affect of what is heard and its never-ending estrangement, never just parataxis but that transitoriness of a multi-centered substance. And then again, none of this either. It feels okay though in Jean Day’s Early Bird…
