"Tesla (TSLA) reported its Q2 earnings after the closing bell on Tuesday, meeting analysts’ estimates, following a prolonged COVID-induced shutdown at its Shanghai production facility.

The company also says it sold 75% of its Bitcoin, turning it into fiat currency, adding $936 million in cash to its balance sheet. The quarter, however, ended Tesla's streak of reporting record revenue."

“Imagine Ethereum is a space ship that isn’t quite ready for an interstellar voyage. With the Beacon Chain the community has built a new engine and a hardened hull. When it’s time, the current ship will dock with this new system, merging into one ship, ready to put in some serious lightyears and take on the universe.

“When ready, Ethereum Mainnet will ‘merge’ with the Beacon Chain, becoming its own shard which uses proof-of-stake instead of proof-of-work. Mainnet will bring the ability to run smart contracts into the proof-of-stake system, plus the full history and current state of Ethereum, to ensure that the transition is smooth for all ETH holders and users.“"

"What is the Merge?

Today’s PoW mechanism, whereby miners compete to secure the network by solving complex computational puzzles, is the consensus algorithm that secures the Bitcoin blockchain, but it has been criticized for its high energy costs.

PoS – versions of which have already been adopted by chains like Solana and Tezos – replaces miners with validators. Validators can stake 32 ETH with the Ethereum network for the chance to get randomly selected to add blocks (bundles of transactions) to the chain.

In both PoW and PoS, adding blocks to the chain typically grants some rewards to the block issuer.

The update from PoW has been on Ethereum’s roadmap since it first launched in 2015, but engineering complexities have caused the shift – originally dubbed “Ethereum 2.0” – to drag out several years.

The Merge is not expected to reduce Ethereum’s relatively high fees and slow transaction speeds, but it will have a significant immediate impact on the network’s energy use."

Crypto news:

According to the governance proposal shared on Thursday, GHO would be an Ethereum-based and decentralized stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar (USD) that could be collateralized with multiple assets of the user’s choice.

To obtain GHO, users would need to mint the stablecoin against their deposited collateral however, the list of supported collateralized assets and the collateral ratio has yet to be detailed.

As users are essentially borrowing the stablecoin against their holdings, the position will need to be overcollateralized as per any normal Aave loan.
