Adamawa: Binani Becomes First Female Governorship Candidate, Defeats Ribadu, Bindow, Namdas, Others
Senator Ashatu Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) made history today, as she defeated five male contestants to pick the party’s ticket to become the first female flag bearer of any political party in Adamawa.

In a well contested APC governorship primary in Adamawa State, the serving senator representing Adamawa central defeated former EFCC boss, Nuhu Ribadu, who scored 288, former governor Bindow, who scored 103 and serving House of Representatives member, Namdas, with 94 votes; Wafari Therman and Umar Mustphar scored 21 and 39 respectively, to clinch the ticket.

Announcing the result of the primaries that lasted to the early hours of Friday, the chairman of the primaries committee, Alhaji Gambo Lawal said a total number of 1130 delegates were accredited and a total of 1011 votes were cast, while the invalid votes cast were 36

He said, “Of the total number of valid votes cast, Senator Ashatu Dahiru Binani scored 430 and having scored the highest number of votes cast, she is hereby returned as the winner of the primary election.”

Alaafin Of Oyo’s 18 Wives Now Up For Grabs - Oyo Chief Tells Nigerian Men

The 18 wives of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, may now be available to suitors without undergoing cleansing rituals after the demise of the renowned monarch.

Oba Adeyemi, 83, passed on late Friday after receiving treatments at the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti and is expected to be buried according to Islamic rites by 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Oba Adeyemi’s queens, Abibat (first wife), Rahmat Adedayo, Mujidat, Rukayat, Folashade, Badirat Ajoke, Memunat Omowunmi, Omobolanle, Moji, Anuoluwapo, Damilola, Chioma and others are now available for suitors.

“They are not performing any cleansing; They are free to move on with their lives,” he said. Nonetheless, he said. “The wives cannot get married to an indigene of Oyo.”

He added, “Now that Alaafin is dead, they all would be asked to exit the palace with their belongings. Although the properties of the late monarch would be shared among them.”

The Aláàfin of Oyo Lives on.

No Monarch dies in Yorubaland but ascends into the Heavens, while a successor takes over the substantive office.

Only the Kingmakers are allowed to announce the demise of a monarch not the media.

According to the narration,though Alaafin has stopped breathing, the Oyomesi must not announce it until they have conducted all necessary rituals and consulted the gods to ensure he arrived safely. But unfortunately, social media has really revealed what should be kept secret until traditional rites ought to have been carried out.

Culturally and traditionally, the announcement of *the collapse of pillar* of Oyo (Oranmiyan) will start with Alapini sending messages that Gbẹ̀du drum be beaten in all domains of his ṣenior brothers (6 other sons of Odùduwà - Alake, Oniketu, Òní Sábẹ́ etc).

Upon the hearing of the drum, they are expected to stay indoor for 7 days, mourn their junior brother who by providence owns all the palaces and carry out some rituals.

Upon completion of these rituals, they will Paroko to Arole (Ooni). Arole will in turn perform *certain ritual rights* at Ilé Ifè by the staff of Oranmiyan who will in turn send emissary (paroko) to Bashorun in Oyo to close the curtains of the Palace.

It is after this that Bashorun has the right to the meeting of Ọ̀yọ́ Mesi (only Alapini is excluded from the meeting for obvious reasons ,who will then inform them that *the land is spoilt*.

It is the Oyo Mesi members that will in turn *announce the spoiling of the land* to territories and areas they oversee throughout the Empire. Bashorun will also give permission to Aare Ona Kakanfo to ensure that the Empire must be secured and put all Esos at alert because *the land is spoilt*.

This process may take roughly 6 weeks before it come to the general knowledge of the public. The announcement used to be a delicate process in the past because some *people must follow the king on the journey, he doesn't travel alone*, and as such, preparation of such that will *travel* with him has to be done with high level of emotional intelligence.

Ní ìgbà ìwásẹ̀, a kì í tú'fọ̀ Aláàfin lálẹ̀de Ọ̀yọ́, "Ilẹ́ bàjẹ́ l'Óde Ọ̀yọ́" ni wọ́n ńwí.

Traditionally, until the confirmation comes from the Prime Minister and all the rights performed to the stage of Bashorun informing Oyo Mesi, its still a rumour, despite the fact that it must have been to the knowledge of who and who throughout the Empire.

But let me quickly add that this *was* then and not *now*. This is just the summary of how it used to be. Modernity has completely taken over everything. Nobody follows Aláàfin on such a journey again, no Àrokò anywhere again (Internet has taken over), Aláàfin leaves Palace nowadays (it is in the past that they will say, the *òń rọ̀'Yọ́ òń kánjú, Aláàfin ò rẹ bìkan*, so, ordinarily, it was virtually unimaginable for the land to be spoilt outside Oyo Palace) etc.

Aláàfin is Alive but Oba Adeyemi has transited.

Do you Know Why Abobaku is Trending After the Death of Alaafin of Oyo ?

The term Abobaku means one who dies with the king. Anyone who bore this title was buried alongside the incumbent king upon his demise. It is believed that the title was a way of strengthening loyalty and preventing betrayal that could lead to the King’s untimely death since whoever occupied the position was sure to protect the King as much as he could, to avoid his own death as well. Abobaku title was a death trap, as the holder of such title had their life depending on the death or survival of the incumbent King. But the position was much contested, just like other exalting chiefly titles in the kingdom. And this was because of the benefits attached to the title.

The abobaku is believed to be close to the King with rights to enjoy from the royal largess. He may even have rights nearly equaled to that of the King. Depending on the cultural practices of the kingdom in question. This is so because it is believed that since he is to die with the King, he ought to enjoy his living days to the fullest. And it probably explains why the position remained attractive and was sometimes contested even though it was a death trap.The abobaku is an ancient title predominantly in the old Oyo kingdom.But the title might be present in other Kingdoms, with the name varying according to language and culture.

Following the death of the previous Ooni of Ife, Oba Sijuwade, it was rumored that the abobaku escaped; to avoid getting buried along with the dead King. But this has been dispelled as false news, with clarifications emerging to prove that no such title existed in Ile-Ife.

And the Saarun of Ife who is said to be the closest to the Ooni, lived his full years and was never buried with the Ooni.Since the abobaku culture was abolished in 1859, there has been no record of this practice anywhere in Yoruba land.

Alafin Oyo Passed Away

The Oyo Arafin in Yoruba mythology and history is said to be one of the seven grandsons of the Olduduwa who later became kings and formed the basis of the Yoruba civilization.

After the fall of the Oyo Empire, the title was retained as the official title of the ceremonial ruler of the contemporary indigenous peoples of Oyo, Nigeria. Arafin is the political leader of the Yoruba people and the only monarch who has the power to appoint chiefs representing the whole of Yoruba. Examples of such appointments are Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubalam and Iyalode of Yorubalam.

As of 2021, the Araffin (emperor) of Oyo Oba is Ramidi Adeyemi III, the 45th Araffin to celebrate his 50th anniversary[3]. Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, Iku Baba Yeye, Alaafin (Emperor) of Oyo are the permanent chairmen of the Oba and Emirate Owa State Council. New PDP FC signing Joseph Tegbe has been given the captain's armband to lead the team in the 2023 Oyo South Senatorial competition.

The decision to make him the captain was confirmed in the absence of the current captain Senator Kola Balogun who is currently performing Umrah in Saudi Arabia, Kola Balogun is expected back in the country this week and we are waiting to see how he's going to react to the news.

The option of moving to his club's major rival APC FC is on the table but there is no certainty that he would be given an automatic captain's armband at APC FC for the competition because of the senior players like Senator Soji Akanbi who was a former captain as well, Chief Olusola Ayandele Eruobodo and Engr Remi Oseni who are all looking forward to leading APC FC in the competition.

Senator Kola Balogun also have another option of leaving PDP FC on a free transfer to the newly promoted team NNPP FC who recently signed Alh. Bisi Olopoeniyan from PDP FC as their new coach.

Some of the fans of PDP FC are not happy but the decision of the club chairman Seyi Makinde is the final. He knows the capacity of each player and knows the players that can help him deliver the title in the state.

"Infact, we are just waiting for him to come back from the Hospital today and we are planning to crown him the "New King of the Jungle", that creature has been a real Problem in this village", said the Local Council Chief.

"He even tore and bit off it's head!!?.. imagine such an angry person!!. It means he is really "tired" of Uganda and every creature in it", one old woman lamented.

However the Central government Wild Life Officials have said that the New Ruler must still explain to the authorities why he never chose to run away first as the law advises and clearly stipulates under such circumstances.
