🌟What does it take to become a coach in 2025?🌟

I've found coaching to be one of the most rewarding careers out there. It’s about helping people unlock their full potential, navigate challenges, and step into their greatness. But becoming a successful coach in 2025 isn’t just about having good intentions; it’s about consistently showing up with the right blend of skills, authenticity, and growth.

Here’s what I think it takes to become a coach in 2025:

💼 Specialization: Generic advice won't cut it. You need to own your niche, whether it’s career coaching, business coaching, leadership development, or something unique that highlights your expertise. Remember, you're often best suited to coach the person you used to be.

🎙 Authentic Storytelling: People want to connect with coaches who've been in their shoes. Sharing your journey—your wins AND your losses—builds trust and credibility.

📚 Lifelong Learning: The coaching world evolves fast. Whether it’s pursuing certifications or staying up to date on trends like AI, continuous growth is non-negotiable. If you want your clients to invest in their growth, you've got to invest in yourself too.

🌐 Digital Presence: In 2025, your online presence is your personal brand. A standout LinkedIn profile, engaging content, and a clear message are key to building visibility and trust.

💡 Empathy Turned Into Action: Coaching isn’t just about listening; it’s about drawing out actionable insights that drive real transformation. People come to you for breakthroughs, not just conversations.

If you’re ready to step into coaching—or want to level up your coaching business—remember this: coaching in 2025 is for the bold, the authentic, the empathetic, and the fearless.

What’s your take—what do you think makes a great coach today? Drop your thoughts below! 👇

I’ve started to reflect on the goals I set for myself at the beginning of 2024 and what progress I’ve made. What’s been hard about this exercise was that I didn’t have a list of objectives and KPIs to meet.

In fact, how do you know if you’re making progress when your goal is to ?

Instead of trying to justify progress, I want to share a list of things that brought me immense joy this year.

⭐ Working out consistently (43 week streak)
⭐ Running my first 5K
⭐ Picking up my daughter from school every day
⭐ Traveling with my family to some amazing places
⭐ Becoming a certified coach and starting a business
⭐ Podcasting and sharing my story
⭐ Meeting and connecting with incredible people (probably my favorite)

I learned it’s not about how much you achieve in one year, but rather how much you enjoyed the journey. I’m so grateful for 2024–the joy, the journey, and the good company along the way.

If you want to be extraordinary, you have to start living outside of the ordinary.

What does that mean?

⭐ Ask yourself “Why not me?” Embrace your originality.
⭐ Take more risks.
⭐ What would you lose if you failed? What would you gain if you succeeded?
⭐ You don’t have to stop being afraid, but keep moving through the fear.
⭐ Surround yourself with inspiring people who are doing the thing you’ve only dreamt of doing.

Each action you take is one step closer to your extraordinary destiny. 🚀

Hi! 👋 I’m Kelly Poquiz Burke and I’m the Founder and CEO of Career Slay.

Nearly one year ago, I made the scary decision to leave my 9-to-5 job to pursue something even bigger than myself, building a new brand.

After over a decade of building a successful career in marketing, I came to realize that my true passion of motivating others to transform their lives authentically was something that I could do for a living.

So in May, I launched Career Slay, an executive coaching company whose purpose is to help high performers courageously develop their careers and become the fearless leaders they were meant to be.

My clients are published authors, executives, entrepreneurs, and aspiring Olympic athletes. They are ambitious, driven, and strive for more in their career, but recognized the need for support to reach their full potential.

I’m grateful to every one of my clients for entrusting me to be their guide. I’m especially grateful to Bold Journey for featuring my story *link in bio.*

If you know anyone who could benefit from working with a career and leadership coach or if your organization needs a facilitator for leadership development trainings, please refer them to me at www.careerslay.com.

Thanks for your support!

What do you say when someone asks you: "Where do you see yourself five years from now?"

Almost 6 years ago, I had just wrapped up planning season at work and thought, "We spend so much time planning the future for work, why don't we do this for our own lives?"

So my husband, Michael Burke, and I sat down at our kitchen table and brainstormed our "5-year plan" which spanned everything from getting a dog to paying off my student loans.

Take a look and tell me what you see. It's crazy how much we truly own our destiny when we are intentional about what we really want in life. Most of the things on this list have been accomplished with the exception of traveling to all those countries.

My two favorite goals on this list?
2. "Kelly starts career coaching."
5. "Take a sabbatical."

If I ever start to feel anxious about the future, I'll look at this list as a reminder that I'm exactly where I'm meant to be.
