Dear South Sudanese,

By Tearz Ayuen

If you have teenagers in Kenya, Nairobi in particular, watch them closely, for LGBTQ+ is the latest culture and it's taking over the country like a wildfire among the youth.

Scientists argue that being sexually or romantically attracted to one's gender is inborn. That means some are born like that. But it can be learnt or acquired too.

When I was growing up, wearing timberland boots, baggy jeans, baseball caps, and tracksuits was the coolest thing. We were cool kids. We were 'Yo-yos'.

Today, being a cool kid is associated with LGBTQ+. In my view, poverty has made some adapt by venturing into the "amok nyin" world.

And it's a lucrative business. If you think I am lying, show me a poor homo in Nairobi. Junubin who go clubbing can attest to that.

With the emergence of social media, such individuals are now role models. What do youth do with models? They adore them. Worship them. They do what they do.

And boom! A passive recruitment is taking place, arguably mainly at schools. I repeat: your heterosexual children are likely being recruited into LGBTQ+ culture. Watch your kids.

I thought I should tell you. Have a great weekend!

11 Leadership Lessons from" The Leader in you"-Dale Carnegie

1. Talk less, listen more.
People will pay attention to what you say, just because of your position. The leader’s job is to pay attention to what other people say, especially those who think their views don’t count. Show you’re listening by acting on what people tell you, and gain their trust by giving them the credit.

2. Don’t step in with solutions too quickly.
No-one learns anything new if you keep doing what you already know how to do, and don’t allow others to try. Anyway, they may find a different, or better way, and if not… mistakes are valuable too.

3. Be authentic.
Be authentic, passionate, even emotional, about what you believe in. Share your vision and live your values. The personal is more engaging, even inspiring, than the process.

4. Don’t ‘dis’ downwards.
Once a decision is made by the Board, or the leadership team, it’s yours even if you argued against it during discussions. Your job as leader is to get others to believe in, and work towards, a shared goal, not to divide opinion or loyalties.

5. I’m OK: You’re OK.
Start from the position that everyone is doing the best they can, then look for ways to support and encourage them – which is so much more rewarding than finding fault.

6. Don’t be the smartest person in the room.
Being a leader does not mean knowing more than anyone else. Recognise, encourage and promote others as experts. Give them the trust and autonomy to be creative and do excellent work, defined in their terms. You simply provide the direction, so that this excellent work contributes to a shared purpose.

7. Sense of purpose.
Your team know what they do and how to do it, but you can make a big difference by sharing a strong sense of why they’re doing it and where it’s heading. Help them develop a broad understanding of the team’s purpose, and faith in how their role contributes to the whole. (Remember the floor-sweeper at NASA?)

8. Being right isn’t enough.
A great idea is of no consequence unless you can convince others to believe it too, and then persuade them to help you make your idea a reality. The best way to do this is to make the idea theirs.

9. Focus on a few things.
Focusing on the things that really matter and where you can make a difference. There may be a hundred different distractions and demands on your time and a hundred ways you could respond, but it’s the dozen carefully chosen actions that deliver the results.

10. Get out and about.
Get out and about and in the work. It’s hard to retain that sense of what the job’s really about when you are sitting.

A beer company was hiring a taster, Someone to taste the beers before they are taken for selling. So they placed adverts and one afternoon, my father walked into the manager's office asking to be employed.

The manager tried to figure out how he could drive him away but couldn't come up with an idea, so he decided to give him a trial. He ordered his secretary to give him a glass of wine 🍷

He took a sip and said, "It's Red wine, Varietal, three years old, grown on rift valley, matured in steel containers."

"That's correct!" The manager exclaimed, "Well give him another one let's see." So he was given.

He took a sip again and said, "It's Guinness, a combination of barley, roast malt extract, and brewers yeast brewed around Thika road in Nairobi, Kenya 2 years ago"

"Incredible!" said the manager.

Now the manager went closer to the secretary and whispered to her saying, "Go get some of your urine in a cup let's see if he will get that."

TIMBUKTU (MALI) HISTORICAL FACTS
___
Did you know that in the 14th century, the city of Timbuktu was 5 times larger than London?
And even that it was then the richest city in the world?

Nearly 200 years before Columbus, Malian sailors land in America.

The Malian city of Timbuktu had a population of 115,000 people in the 14th century; five times more populated than medieval London.

National Geographic recently described Timbuktu as the “Paris” of the medieval world, due to its intellectual culture. According to Professor Henry Louis Gates, 25,000 scholars studied there.

"Many old families in West Africa have private library collections that date back hundreds of years. The Mauritanian towns of Chinguetti and Oudane have a total of 3,450 hand-written medieval books.

There are believed to be 6,000 other books in the city of Oualata Some date back to the 8th century AD There are just over 11,000 books in private collections in Niger.

Finally, in Timbuktu, Mali, there are approximately 700,000 surviving books. They are written in Mande, Suqi, Peul, Sudani. The contents of the manuscripts relate to mathematics, medicine, poetry, law and astronomy.

This work represents the very first encyclopedia, in the 14th century, long before the Europeans had the idea of it later, in the 18th century…

A collection of one thousand six hundred books was considered a small library for a West African scholar in the 16th century. Professor Ahmed Baba from Timbuktu claimed to have the smallest library of all his friends - he only had 1,600 volumes.

Regarding these old manuscripts, Michael Palin, in his television series "Around the Sahara", said that the imam of Timbuktu "has a collection of scientific texts which clearly show the planets orbiting the sun".

They date back hundreds of years. Palpable proof that the scholars of Timbuktu knew much more than their European counterparts.
