Scope of Practice Scope of Practice is a podcast from the Connecticut Certification Board.

If it falls under the umbrella of the Substance Use and Co-Occurring Disorders industry, we will talk about it.

Poiab Vue, a social worker from Minneapolis, MN joins the podcast to talk about some of the problematic views and behaviors many in therapeutic roles exhibit that limit our ability to be true changemakers. Tune in and listen to some examples that she recently listed in an eyebrow-raising LinkedIn po...

Our latest podcast is up...by popular demand, more on gut health and mental health from Dr. Jaquel Patterson, ND, MBA

We talk with Dr. Jaquel Patterson, nationally and internationally recognized naturopathic physician about the connection between gut health and brain health. Dr. Patterson addressed this in a keynote presentation at the CCB conference in June, and the amount of feedback on this subject demanded that...

Available tomorrow! Our conversation with Dr. Brian Anderson, whose research suggests that the development of SUDs may be due to the normal cognitive processes of the brain.
His work challenges the entire brain disorder theory (not his intention but a byproduct of the data), so you will want to listen!

Although Monday the 15th is a regularly scheduled podcast release day, our next scheduled guest from Hazelden (which had been on the calendar for no less than 2 months) cancelled their interview within a half hour of releasing our fantastic interview on overdose prevention centers with Sam Rivera. Are the two events related? We can only guess.
That's worthy of promoting this once more (at least)!

Call them overdose prevention centers, safe consumption sites, safe injection sites...whatever the terminology, they can often evoke emotional and negative responses from many SUD professionals. Sam Rivera, Executive Director of On Point NYC, which operated the first 2 OPCs in the United States, joi...

We are excited to announce that former NHL goaltender Clint Malarchuk, who survived a 6 inch cut from a skate blade across his neck (that caused him to loose nearly 2 quarts of blood and required 300 stitches), will be joining an upcoming podcast to talk mental health and su***de.
We will NOT talk about how many times he beat the Hartford Whalers while playing in the Adams Division with Quebec and Buffalo 🤬🤣

01/08/2022

Within a half hour of posting the most recent episode with Sam Rivera, we received an email to cancel my next scheduled interview (which had been on the calendar for months) with an expert in the care of opioid dependent pregnant women. This amazing medical professional works for one of the most recognizable organizations with assets of about $350m (2020), that certainly benefits financially from the status quo and the timing of the cancellation is certainly curious. I guess they hadn't heard my discussion with Dr. Mark Willenbring previously or maybe they would have never scheduled...
If we are upsetting the applecart, THEN WE ARE DOING OUR JOB!
Thanks to all who appear and listen!

I am excited to talk with Sam Rivera, Executive Director of On Point NYC, operators of the nation's first OPCs (Overdose Prevention Centers) in Washington Heights and Harlem, for an upcoming Scope of Practice podcast episode!

Operators of the sites say the two facilities have intervened in more than 300 potentially fatal overdoses. But a lack of government funding is making it hard for them to expand.

I wish there wasn't cause to re-post this interview from May 2021, when Safer Solution CEO Michael Clarke sat down with us to talk about what was once unthinkable.

The conversation that no one wants to have, but we must have. We speak with protection and active shooter expert Michael Clarke, Founder of The Safer Solution in Los Angeles about preparing for the unthinkable.

Our latest podcast is available. Join me for a great conversation about uniting the industry with Jane G. Clark of Charlotte, NC.
