Have you been brain washed into obsessing about protein?
The common belief is âif I focus on protein, Iâll achieve better glucose levelsâ and while this isnât necessarily wrong, what end up happening is we hyper focus on protein -specifically from animal sources, not realizing that what also comes with that protein is an increased amount of saturated fat.
If you want to reverse diabetes, you have to address insulin resistance, and the main culprit of insulin resistance is an increased intake of fats in the diet that end up clogging the cells overtime.

We need to start having real conversations about our food system and the quality of the food that we consume. A hamburger back in the 80s is not the same hamburger that we are consuming today. Our food system is extremely flawed and because big food prioritizes profit over nutrient density, a lot of times itâs not that we are simply consuming foods that are not the best for us because of a lack of will power but itâs more so that we are consuming foods that have been made with and contain addictive substances and we end up becoming emotionally tied to these foods because of how they affect our brain chemistry.However, simply telling someone to âjust buy organicâ or âbuy from their local farmersâ when they can barely afford to pay their rent, or theyâre surviving off of government assistance can be extremely dismissive. So we need to be sensitive to the fact that not everyone has access to high quality foods. So what is the solution? I believe the first step is focusing on prioritizing simple whole food ingredients as much as possible while cutting down your consumption of commercialized meat and dairy products, but also giving yourself grace if what you can do, looks different from what someone else is able to do at this stage in their journey. Diabetes is the main cause of kidney disease.
The main job of the kidneys is to filter wastes and extra water out of your blood, which is how te body creates urine and gets rid of toxins.
Your kidneys also help control blood pressure and make hormones.
When your kidneys are damaged, they canât filter blood like they should, which can cause wastes to build up in your body.
High blood sugar, can damage the blood vessels in your kidneys. When the blood vessels are damaged, they donât work as well. This is why many people with diabetes also develop high blood pressure.
You are also more likely to develop kidney disease if you have diabetes and:
*smoke
*Eating lots of fast or processed foods
*You're not physically active
*overweight
*or have heart disease
The best way to slow or prevent diabetes-related kidney disease is to adopt healthy lifestyle habits, eat a plant rich diet, and move your body i a way that is going to be sustainable for you in the long run.
