I have always had a love for wildflowers and have been blessed with a little soul that shares that same love.

From the time Mason was able to walk and wander the yard, I have been greeted by little hands holding wild flowers.

“Close your eyes and open your hands. I picked these for you”

Have been his words from the start.

He will be 10 this summer and without fail with the arrival of warmer weather this month - I hear those sweet words again.

Dandelions are a favorite -
The jar pictured holds every dandelion hand picked and dried by Mason. It is one of my most treasured items.

The Car Ride

It’s nothing extravagant. A part of our daily routine that holds more value than my son may ever realize.

You see, that 10 minute ride to/from school allows distraction free conversation. It is something I look forward to and will always cherish.

The conversations have been limitless throughout the years:

Topics from class (his favorites are Math and Science)

Pointing out the beauty of the world around. His eyes always go to the sky: the sunrise, the display of colors or identifying the clouds

Recess chase stories

Ball game victories or losses

Singing as if there is a crowd of 20,000 listening

Telling jokes and laughing at times til we both cry

These conversations are a window into his world. They allow me to see things from his view point - his dreams to his fears.

I pray that he always feels comfortable being open and free in conversation with me… that he knows I am a safe space in our ever changing world.

I know my time is limited as he grows older - he will eventually become independent in getting where he goes and my role in the conversation will be filled by friends.

For that I will forever be grateful for…
