So they are gonna raise property taxes now and then raise them AGAIN ,substantially more,when they do the county wide property value reassessment next year? This raise will put the property tax from 25mils to 30mils. On the CURRENT value of property. The county property values have not been reassessed since 1972. That’s 52 years . You do the math for next year . Taxes on property go up, then that means home mortgage and homeowners insurance payments will increase. DONT forget that with the assessment it also gives the schools and municipalities the ability to raise taxes right along with the county.
My personal opinion is that unless the wages in the area go up substantially, within the next year, the property value reassessment will put a major burden on working class people and home owners in Northumberland County .

Commissioner Scicchitano says:

“This has nothing to do with the costs of the reassessment,” Schiccatano said. “We recently negotiated contracts with five different groups and gave (employees) fair salaries, which are comparable to other counties.”

(Say what you want about the man, but Vinnie Clausi said this would happen while running for commissioner. He said it would give everyone an “open checkbook” when it came to taxes)
