Dardanelles Gun is a Ottoman super-sized bombard built in 1464 by Munir Ali and modelled after the Orban bombard that was used for the Ottoman besiegers of Constantinople in 1453. In 1807, the gun was still in use against the failed Dardanelles Operation by the British Royal Navy.

Namira Salim made history on Friday as the first Pakistani to reach space aboard Virgin Galactic's VSS Unity spaceplane. The spacecraft, with five individuals on board, including Salim, experienced a sub-orbital trajectory after launching from New Mexico's Spaceport America. While in space, passengers enjoyed several minutes of "weightlessness" before returning to Earth, as the flight did not reach orbit.

Salim was part of Virgin Galactic's fourth mission in 2023, known as Galactic 04. She was one of the first 100 people to purchase a ticket for Virgin Galactic's space journey in 2006 for $200,000, a cost that has since increased to $450,000.

Other passengers on the flight included Trevor Beattie, a British advertising professional, and Ron Rosano, a US astronomy educator, along with commander Nicola Pecile and Pakistani-Canadian pilot Jameel Janjua. Janjua, with over 4,000 flying hours in more than 45 vehicles, was accompanied by Kelly Latimer and CJ Sturckow in piloting the spaceplane.

Virgin Galactic had postponed the flight by one day, rescheduling it for Friday, October 6, earlier in the week.
Namira Salim, the founder and chairperson of the nonprofit Space Trust, is a renowned adventurer who became the first Pakistani to visit both the North Pole in April 2007 and the South Pole in January 2008.

For the first time in almost a decade, Pakistan will participate in the final round 4 of the Dubai Endurance Karting Championship 2022.
Pakistan last attended the event in 2012-2013.

Pakistan's racing squad comprising Shamiq Saeed (c), Saad Lari (team manager), Shahzad Qureshi, Samad Soomro, Uzair Magsi and Enaam Ahmed (racers) will represent the country in an international racing event.

As many as 42 karting teams, including 15 national champion teams from Europe, will participate in the mega-racing event.
Prominent participants in the event include formula one world champion Fernando Alonso and former F1 driver Pedro De La Rosa.
"Competing at this level is daunting. Our team lacks in experience however there is no shortage of commitment, passion and desire to excel, compete and go wheel to wheel with the world champion drivers," the team's captain Saeed said.

"We view this as a tremendous opportunity to learn and gain experience and bring that knowledge back to the country for raising the bar at the local level. After all how often does one get a chance to practice & race against F1 Drivers including a 2 time FI World Champion," he added.
"Inshallah hoping to make the country and the people proud of our efforts," he concluded.
