Empathy is a gift and a curse if you are in a relationship with a narcissist. 😦
Most survivors of narcissistic abuse are loving, caring individuals with a lot of empathy. You may see past your abusive partner’s toxic behavior and feel bad for them… you may blame their childhood trauma, or believe they have PTSD, depresison, a bad day, etc. This often turns into a way to rationalize their abusive behavior and can prevent you from setting boundaries to protect yourself.
💡No matter how horrible a person’s trauma, day, or situation may be, it is NEVER ok to make excuses for abuse.
