Having a sick kiddo is the worst!! 🥺

With Myla getting the flu this past weekend, and honestly being the sickest she's ever been in her whole life, it has really had my emotions all over the place! 🥲

Trying to make sure we're doing all the right things, making all the right calls, giving her all the love while simultaneously trying to not get sick ourselves😷... this weekend has been a doozy! Lol

When you have a child that never really gets super sick other than a cold here or there, it's such a blessing! But then when they do, you feel unsure of everything you are doing, if you're doing the right or wrong thing, if you are doing enough... it's just so many emotions! 😅

I feel like we all do that as parents constantly! We're our own worst critics when it comes to caring for our kiddos! Nonstop second guessing what we're doing or not doing, letting guilt flood our minds... it's a never ending cycle! 🙃

So this is just your reminder that if you're a parent out there that's showing up, being present, loving your child unconditionally and just doing the best you can... you are doing a great job!!

And if you have had, or currently have, sick kiddos, my mama heart goes out to you because it's the worst feeling ever to see your child in a sickly state! 😩

This is the first year Myla has not believed in Santa Claus 🎅🏾

A few months ago Myla lost a tooth, and we were still playing tooth fairy with her, and she started questioning intently whether or not the tooth fairy was real, and asking if WE were the tooth fairy!

I found myself straight up lying to her face saying "no we didn't do that, that would be weird for us to sneak into her room for a tooth"... and then later feeling the guilt of her actually questioning, and me not being able to tell her the truth about it all!

So that day, Cara W and I talked about it, and decided to sit her down that evening and tell her the whole truth!

And honestly, her reaction was not what I expected! 👀

She wasn't upset. She wasn't disappointed. She was shocked!!! Shocked that we were able to do all that in one night, that we were the ones writing her notes, eating the cookies and carrots and that we were the ones putting the elf in all those crazy situations over the years! Honestly, the elf not being real was her biggest let down because of the mischief she always got into 🤭🤣

She was also impressed, and so appreciative that we were the ones doing all that every single Christmas Eve! That we were the ones creating "magic" 🥹

But now, she is very adamant that if she ever has kids, she will not be teaching them about Santa, or all the other mythical creatures! LOL!! She says she doesn't want to lie to her kiddos especially when she would be trying to teach them not to lie! 🫠

And it had me thinking... if I could do it all over again, would I?? And my answer is... I don't know! Probably, but I would definitely do things very differently! For example, WE would give the big presents, and "Santa" would bring the little things, or just the "needs"!

So I need to know where y'all stand with this now! Do you keep the Santa tradition going in your family? Do your kids still believe, or have they ever believed in Santa? And how do you do Santa Claus if you do?? And if you could do it differently now, would you?? ❤️

Story time 😅

This was supposed to be our holiday card we sent out to everyone this year! 🥹

Now take a moment to swipe, and tell me if you can see why it's NOT!! 🙃

Yup, they erased one of us Cara's!! And not because I left it off... no no.... because I left it ON, and they thought the double name was a mistake!! 🤦‍♀️

If this ain't one of the biggest issues of being a same name couple I've ever seen... I don't know what is!! 🤣😆

They literally thought there was no way we could have two Cara's in our family, and it must have been a typo, so they just deleted a Cara, and shipped them off!! 🤪

Y'all... I cannot even begin to tell you how equally disappointing + freakin HILARIOUS this is at the same time!! LOL!!

I really couldn't do anything but laugh (and get my money back) over these cards!! 🤭

So if you were expecting a holiday card from me this year, you sadly will not be getting one! I decided to just forego sending them out as I didn't want to take the time to write another "cara" on the signature line! 😆

But here you go, our "one less Cara" holiday card for your enjoyment!! I thought y'all might get a good laugh out of this since I talk about being a same name couple quite a bit!! 😜

My words still remain true on the back of the card though (see last photo): wishing you love + warmth this holiday season! May this New Year be even better than the last! Big hugs! 🤗

What does Myla deal with when it comes to having two moms?! 👩‍👩‍👧

I asked y'all about a week ago what topics you wanted to hear more about, and by far this was the majority response! So as Myla always says, let's get into it!

The most common situation she faces is the fear, or worry, that kids will be allowed to be her friend because she has two moms, because let's face it, not everyone is yay for gay! 🙃

Actually, while we were planning her bday party, and making the list of who was going to be invited, she brought up how she wished one little girl could come, so we asked her why we couldn't invite her?

She then told us that her parents are very anti-gay, and would never allow her to come to a two mom family's house! And my heart just broke for her, and for that little girl in that moment!

To think that someone would deny their child a friendship just because of who the other child's parent's love is just beyond comprehension to me!! And to top it off, it's just the parents that carried these feelings. Their child could care less about us, she just loves being friends with Myla! 🥺

And while yes, they can still be friends at school, what happens when we're all at a school function + they realize our family dynamic? Will they ban their child from associating with Myla completely either out of fear or hate??

Needless to say, running into things like this, while not surprising in some ways, still deeply stuns me every time because I keep expecting people to be better, and they keep reminding me how much further we have to go!

This is just one example, but there are others that I will be talking about more since I know this is something y'all want to hear about!

Today is day #16 of 's 30-Day Kindness Challenge, and I am so thrilled to be apart of this initiative, and highlight one of my favorite local, small businesses where we live!

is not only one of my favorite small businesses for their yummy smoothies, and their scrumptious açaí bowls, but more importantly, the amazing woman behind it all that shows nothing but kindness, gratitude and care for every single person that steps foot into her establishment.

And just like her slogan says, she makes eating healthy EXCITING!! 😁 Even Myla said she'd prefer her açaí bowls over ice cream 👀 now if that don't tell you how good it is, I don't know what will!! Lol

There's nothing more amazing than seeing a small business thrive. Especially one that is owned by such an incredible human.

So I encourage each one of you today to head to your favorite local, small business and support them! It truly does make all the difference!

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them."

Today the words of thankful, grateful and content will be swirling around everyone, but I wonder if we are all taking the time to truly live in those words we are sharing amongst each other today and everyday.

When we say we are thankful for our family, are we taking the time out for them? Being present in those moments? Really embracing each one of them as they are, even when they drive us crazy? 🤪

When we say we're grateful for our health, are we doing the things we should be to put our health first? Are we taking care of us? Are we taking care of not just our bodies, but our minds too? 👀

When we say we're content, are we actually living our lives in that state of contentment? Being satisfied in what we have, and not chasing the joneses? Knowing what we have is more than enough for us? 🤔

Just some food for thought today as you think about all the things you are thankful and grateful for... let's not forget to actually LIVE our lives by the words we utter!

And not just today... but everyday!

Weekend photo dump!! ❄️🥰

This weekend we had a little staycation with , and it was just what we all needed! 🫶

Sometimes it just feels good to get away, but still be right in your own backyard at the same time!

We threw snow at each other (just don't be like me and forget to block your face 🥴), went on several carnival rides, slid down their 8 story snow slide (if you missed it, check out my reel from yesterday 🤣), and got a sneak peek of their stunning holiday lights! The only thing we didn't get to do was ice skate because we ran out of time! 🙃

But it was a good, fun break to kick off Myla's holiday break this week!

If you're in Georgia, or you're headed down here anytime soon, I would highly recommend checking this place out! We always have a blast here every winter!! ❄️

Ending this week with a full heart, and new mission 💙

Today I was invited to the Amerigroup office in Atlanta by a non-profit here in Georgia called , but I'll be honest with y'all, I never imagined how much it would impact me + my life!

If you're not familiar with , they are are a nonprofit here in Georgia that take backpacks, and fill them up with so many special items for kids that are in the foster care system.

There are hundreds of thousands of kids that end up in the foster system, by no fault of their own mind you, and they are moved from place to place with nothing more than a trash bag to throw all their things in as they go. 🥺

I can't even imagine how degrading that must feel to a child that's already dealing with so much to have to pack up their whole little lives in a bag that just resembles trash!

This is why (the founder, and fellow child of foster care himself) started this foundation to change that exact scenario, and give these kiddos something that resembles the value they actually have in this world!

travels around the state of Georgia (and beyond on occasions), and hosts packing parties where they fill these backpacks to the brim of things these kiddos will need, and things to bring them comfort along the way!

I was so impressed and inspired by the thought, dedication and love that went into this entire operation, that I am absolutely committed to becoming as involved as I possibly can be with their organization moving forward!! 🤝

And I am just so honored to have been a small part of this entire mission! Thank you + for everything you are doing, and for having me today! It's so true when they say not all heroes wear capes! 🥹

The first time I ever read this poem was when I first met Cara W. She had a copy of it on her coffee table in her living room, and I instantly fell in love with it! 🥹

The way he spoke about the sea wanting the city even when it's been told it's whole life it was meant for the shore resonated in my soul so deeply!!

Just to know someone out there understood exactly what I had felt like my entire life. Always craving the sea, but always being told I was meant for the shore!!

Ugh it still gets me every single time!! 😭

Just sharing this for those that know deep down they are meant for something more, but are being told the opposite, it's ok for you to want, and love the sea!! 🥹

My response will always be: I do it for the representation!! 👩‍👩‍👧

People always ask why I talk about being a two mom family, a late in life le***an, a blended family and just a q***r person in general so much!

I do it for the little southern girl who was always told this life was a sin.

I do it for the girl who was told she was only supposed to marry a boy.

I do it for the woman who is being told that no other woman will have her because she's been with a man before.

I do it for the middle aged woman who is being told it's too late to come out now.

I do it for the single mom who wants to finally live her truth, but everyone keeps telling her no one will want to take on all that baggage.

I do it for all of us.

Because no matter what the haters say... every single bit of this life is possible. I am the living proof!!

This is why I do it! This is why I show up every single day with myself, and my family!

So that when people say you can't, you have something to point to and say YES I CAN!! 🥹

It is, and always will be about the representation for me!! And if it helps just one single person out there realize their truth... it was all more than worth it!! 🥰

This is us 👩‍👩‍👧

There's a lot of new faces here, so I thought I would make a little reintroduction for those that don't know us so well yet!

I'm Cara 👩🏼(the one with long blonde-ish hair). I go by Mommy to our daughter! I consider myself a late in life le***an because I came out at the age of 30 after being married to a man in my early 20s, and after having a child by a man in my late 20s. I didn't meet Cara W til Myla was 5 years old. I'm a Scorpio, an extrovert and one fun fact about me is that I am obsessed with ketchup!! And it has to be Heinz!! 🤣🥰

Next is Myla 👩🏽‍🦱 She is our 10 year old daughter that's in 5th grade now (I don't know how that's even possible), and she is full of life! She loves to put on a show, loves to sing and can talk your whole ear off if you let her! Myla is a Sagittarius, a major cat lover and one fun fact about her, she loves a good show or movie with good character development, and anything scary!! She wants to write and direct her own scary movies one day! (Stranger things and the walking dead are current faves)

And then we have the other Cara🧑🏻(Cara W so y'all don't get confused bc yes, we both have the same name, and she goes by Mama C to Myla). She is the quiet one, but don't be fooled, she is quite the character too! She is a sports fanatic!! So much so she is actually the email marketing manager for NFL Flag! She was born + raised in Georgia, so every team here is her team! Lol! She's a Pisces, an introvert to her core and one fun fact about her is she is an avid SUP boarder, and thrives in any body of water!

So yeah, this our little family!! We're silly, chaotic, filled with sarcasm and a whole lotta love!! I'm glad you're here, and I hope you stick around because there is a LOT more to come!! 😉

A little weekend photo dump ✨

First off, if you live in Georgia, and you haven't hiked ... it's a MUST!! ⛰️

Such beautiful scenery, the falls are increidble, and it's just such a massive, gorgeous place with so much to do!! (There's also a lodge there with restaurants if you want to stay longer)!

And even though we took the road less traveled (you'll know what I'm talking about if you saw my stories this weekend😅), it ended up being the best way!! Because without going the nature way, we wouldn't have seen all the incredible views we saw going up the mountain!

So pro tip: take the nature way up, and the stairs back down on the other side! 😉

Then yesterday we had a lazy Sunday except for cleaning, finishing and Cara W making our home even more witchy for Halloween!! 🧙‍♀️🧹

Oh, and don't miss photo 10... saw it on the hike, and it is now my new life motto!! 🥹

There's nothing I love more than celebrating love!! 🥰

But celebrating q***r love, well, it just hits on a whole different level!! 🥹

From the first words the officiant spoke, both our eyes welled up with tears! As he told the two brides to look at the crowd of people that not only loved them, but accepted them... the gravity of this moment hit us both right in the chest!

Because all of this just became possible only 8 short years ago!

So being able to celebrate it... feels like a win every damn time!! 🌈

Clothing has no gender!! 🕴️👏

Story time:

Yesterday we had to go get Cara W's new suit altered for an upcoming wedding!

What should have been an exciting time was overshadowed greatly by stress, and severe anxiety! 😣

Why you ask?! Because when people expect her to pull out a dress, she pulls out a suit!

I never realized how much this effected her! Just goes to show, you never know what someone's struggling with internally! But right before we got ready to leave, she broke down in tears because of the mounting anxiety she had just to go get a suit altered!

And my heart broke for her 🥺💔

Through a lot of inner soul searching lately, she has realized a lot of her anxiety stems from this ONE issue!! Because growing up, her family never accepted her personal style, and self expression... so in her mind... why should the world?!

Because of this one simple issue, she's had her guard up when it comes to outsiders ever since. Always feeling like she'll never be understood, much less seen or respected simply just because of a clothing choice that feels right to her!

I mean, how does one present themselves to the world with confidence when the world is constantly worried about the way they are "presenting" when it simply comes to what they have on their body?!

At the end of the day, clothing is for EVERYBODY!! It doesn't have a gender!! It shouldn't be labeled for men or for women... it's just clothing!! And the world needs to take a beat, and realize that one simple fact!!

Just a reminder to wear what makes YOU feel good!! ROCK that suit, SLAY those sneaks, KILL those fits!! EAT THEM UP JUST AS YOU ARE!!

And y'all just wait... bc just like these photos, Cara W is gonna be 🔥 in her new suit this weekend!! 😮‍💨
