New model trends are now pushing the storm system on a more easterly path, high winds and new powdery snowfall will lead to the possibility of blizzard conditions Thursday night. This is looking to be a two-part storm. Light snow expected Wed night into Thurs morning. Another round of snow will then begin Thursday night going through Friday night. High winds up to 55mph out of the northwest could bring blizzard conditions. Christmas Eve on Saturday could still see some difficult travel conditions due to the blowing/drifting snow.

Total snow accumulation remains yet to be determined dependent on the track of the low. New models have been pushing the low further east which would lower totals from original posting.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect beginning Thursday at 6am through Saturday 6am CST.

Winter Weather Advisory for portions of S/E WI beginning tonight at 9pm until 7am Thursday morning. Precipication has moved just a bit further south than originally forecasted, resulting in some of these coutnies to be issued the advisory. Rain will be transitioning to heavy wet snow overnight. Snowfall rates of 1"/hr can be expected if you're out late. South and east of I-94 should receive considerably less as the south will take longer to transition to snow and the lake will also keep the lake counties above freezing longer resulting in less accumulation. Total accumulation can be between 2-6" for these areas, with the heavier amounts north and west.

A tornado outbeak occured on November 29-30 resulting in 22 confirmed tornadoes across the southern United States. Only 2 fatalities were reported with these storms. Are the warning systems getting better with warning communities of dangerous weather? Perhaps. The fatality rates have decreased in numbers over the past few years and we hope, in time, storm related deaths will become a thing of the past.
