Is your venue supporting veganuary?

According to the Guardian, a record 125,000 brits took the Veganuary pledge to eat only vegan food in January 2022.

The figure is up by 100,000 on last year’s, and it’s double the number of people who signed up for Veganuary in 2019.

If you don’t offer vegan meals and drinks on your menu then you’re missing out on a huge market!

Don’t forget to share some pictures of your vegan offerings on your socials ❤️

Welcome to the Social Media Cellar 👋🏼

Why am I here?

In August 2020, my partner (James) started running a small local bar. At the time, the place was struggling to find its place in the market- it didn’t know what it wanted to be.

So, we did our research and realised that there were no bars specialising in cocktails locally 🍹

So we made it our mission to create an amazing cocktail bar in a not so great location.

James did the day to running and I looked after the social media.

After our launch is event in August 2020- which was fully booked 🎉 the bar went from strength to strength.

We did this by knowing our ideal customer, knowing exactly what they wanted and how to speak to them.

This ⬆️ is what I’m going to teach you!

Before someone visits your venue, they want to know, like and trust you.

They want to KNOW what you’re offering is for them.

They have to LIKE you, your venue and what you sell.

They have to TRUST that your content is accurate and that you’re posts are honest.

Marketing these days is about being authentic.

Building that know, like and trust factor into your social media content is so important- it can’t just be sell, sell, sell!

Does your venue have a spiking policy?

Do your staff know how to help someone who may be victim?

Are you letting your customers know how you’re keeping them safe in your venue?

Lots of hard work by bars and people being extra cautious means we’re starting to see a decrease in reports. No cases were reported in Dudley this week (6-12 Dec)

One spiking will always be one too many, but the numbers are starting to reduce. That’s good news for everyone.

Spiking means adding alcohol or drugs to someone’s food or drink without their permission. It’s also come to mean injecting someone with drugs.

The aim of spiking may be to make it easier to rob or s*xually assault the casualty, although sometimes it is just intended as a joke – a bad joke as it is very dangerous. If you’ve been spiked, you must tell us.

Between 6 December and 12 December, 21 crimes were reported to us. Thirteen of these happened that week. The other eight happened some time before then.

• One happened in
• One happened in
• Three happened in
• Eight happened in

Ten of these 13 spiking cases were reported by women. The other three were reported by men. Victims were aged between 18 and 42.

Nine of the reports involved drinks being spiked. Three related to needles. The other person could not tell us how they were spiked.

Sadly, none of the crimes were captured on CCTV or had independent witnesses or any other evidence that would allow us to progress our investigation.

Our multi-drug test kits were used in 12 of these cases. Five of the tests were negative, two were inconclusive and five were positive for drugs we later found out the victim had used. The thirteenth victim declined a test.

In almost all of the cases the person told us that they had been on a night out and couldn’t remember anything about their evening when they woke up the next day. Some added that they had become unwell while out with one person saying they behaved out of character.

Spiking is against the law. It’s a serious crime with serious consequences.

People are more aware of spiking than ever before so perpetrators are more likely to be found out.

People who have spiked someone to enable s*xual activity, could face 10 years in jail, and being placed on the s*x offender’s register.

Criminal convictions change lives. People can lose their job, their home, future careers will be affected when they know about past crimes and people may also face restrictions on travel with countries like the USA not giving visas to people with convictions for serious crimes.

The Drinkaware website has lots of information about enjoying a safe night out including information on spiking and how to report it. Here's the link 👉 https://bit.ly/3qgMmLg

If you’ve been a victim of spiking and need some help, the charity Victim Support is available 24/7. Call them on 08 08 16 89 111.
