The female gaze it’s so apparent in this scene between Meena (Sarita Choudhury) and Demetrius (Denzel Washington).

A scene from Mississippi Masala so nicely directed by Mira Nair and written by Sooni Taraporevala.

Look closely in Satira’s body language and notice how Denzel ask her permission to kiss her and he uses it again as a playful joke that make the scene even more realistic and deep.

Generally, in the film Demetrius is written from a female gaze point of view. Just notice the details in his lines when he talks about the women in his life.

🎶 Female film composers, how many do you know? ➡️Swipe to see the composers behind those films.

A 2018 study led by the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative found that less than 3 percent of composers working on the top 100 fictional films each year at the box office between 2007 and 2017 were women. The number of American-born composers of color was even lower. - Lakshmi Gandhi

“The Academy has been giving out Oscars for music, in various forms, since 1934. It is, perhaps, unsurprising that the field of film music has been – and largely continues to be – dominated by male composers and songwriters. In 87 years just three women composers have taken home the Oscar for Original Score (or some variant thereof) and there were just five other years where women composers were nominated.” , Michael Beek
