Those who are very vibrant in raising their concerns and in criticizing the government on behalf of those Filipinos who are being silenced and blinded have been experiencing adverse treatment— the stigma. Activists are not just about protesting on the streets for distinction or just for their own sake. What they do is more than what meets our eyes.
But how could we really know when activism becomes terrorism?
More than 50 members of student and youth-led organizations from the University of Caloocan City, including student police, student journalists, and other youth leaders have participated as delegates of the momentous event.

More than two years after the shutdown of the largest TV network in the Philippines, the state of the press faces another deliberate threat this year.
The Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) ordered the closure of alternative media Rappler, including Rappler Holdings Corporation (RHC), for an alleged violation of constitutional and statutory rulings on foreign ownership, the commission said on Wednesday, June 29.
____
TNC of the North, the official student publication of the University of Caloocan City for North Extension Campuses, stands with Rappler and hundreds of press freedom defenders against the threat to silence critical media in the country. The student publication also condemns the government’s propaganda to silence the media in proliferating facts over lies. Red tagging, blatant attacks, censorship, and threats toward Filipino journalists are common in the past six years— an alarming truth that the Philippine press is facing. Meanwhile, the alleged accreditation of vloggers in Malacañang is also an obnoxious matter if such pro-admin vloggers have free access rather than those critical watchdogs to the government who are true to their service to the people. We hope for a sharp and logical standard wherein the number of followers is not the basis but the profound qualifications as much as those adept journalists.
With this, TNC of the North is pushing back with the free press against the threat and will continue to uphold responsible journalism.

The 48th Commencement Exercises of the University of Caloocan City, successfully held this Tuesday, June 28, at the Caloocan City Sports Complex— the first in-person graduation rites at the university after two years of distance learning due to the pandemic.
Class 2022 graciously recognized the hard work, determination, strength, and accomplishment of all the graduates after the wretched and changing system in education due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This might be their final phase in the university, but their pledge of serving the city and the country just begins today.
HAPPENING NOW: University of Caloocan City's 4th Commencement Exercises at Caloocan City Sports Complex.
This Batch 2022 Graduation is such a milestone as face-to-face graduation has fortuitously resumed after two years since the pandemic hits the country.

While scrolling on my feed there’s a post that captures my attention. It’s a photo of a basketball team with their muse, a typical scenario if we would imagine, but the thing is their Goddess is not the classic town’s most adorable girl, but instead a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community. I don’t know but for me it’s infrequent, yet it makes me feel proud of the muse. The photo is quite beautiful so I’m about to put a heart reaction to the post when I suddenly notice that it has a lot of “haha” reactions. It makes me uncomfortable and I am very disappointed with the netizens who reacted like that. Then a question appeared in my head, knowing the situation nowadays that we are promoting and recognizing LGBTQIA+ personalities, does the society that we live in have accepted and recognized the whole community?

The 3rd-year students from BA in Communication program are not only commemorating the liberation of the country from colonialism, but these student filmmakers are also celebrating their freedom today from the fears and anxieties they felt from the beginning of their productions.
According to Prof. Alex Perez, Introduction to Film Course Facilitator, this awards night is exceptional not only because it recognizes the talents of young filmmakers, but also because this recognition night occurs during the independence day of the Philippines.
During the pre-election period, misleading information has deliberately mystified Filipinos to determine the truth between the fabricated facts. This has caused many people to gullibly share dubious claims online and refrain from trusting reliable media sources. And now that we are in the post-election times, it is critical for us to continue combating the spread of false information. Our role to preserve democracy from lies is much more important now that people are hoping for good governance.
To know more about how Filipinos can determine the truth in an online landscape saturated with disinformation and why fact-checking is important to good governance, we invite you to join a fact-checking webinar session led by Rappler’s civic engagement arm Move.PH on 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟭𝟳, 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗮𝘁 𝟰 𝗽𝗺. This webinar is open to all UCCians and other interested participants.
The event will be co-presented by TNC of the North, the University of Caloocan City’s official student publication for North Extension Campuses, along with St. Paul Seminary and TomasinoWeb.
