The Pirates are “not on the doorstep of anything” when it comes to potential additions to the roster before the season begins.

GM Ben Cherington said “we’re going to keep working at it,” though didn’t make it sound like Pittsburgh was on its way to any new acquisitions.

This quote of course, isolated, sums it up for Pirates fans as their desire grows for owner Bob Nutting to sell the team to a new group that cares about winning.

The Yankees believe there would be a “feeding frenzy” of teams trying to sign manager Aaron Boone if they don’t extend him, GM Brian Cashman says.

It’s been reported that an extension for Boone could be announced before Opening Day. He is 603-429 as Yankees manager since 2018, with six playoff appearances and one trip to the World Series in 2024.

Reminder that Will Ferrell literally has a 0.00 career ERA. Cactus League legend! 🌵⚾️

In spring training 2015 Ferrell suited up for 10 different teams in a single day, playing every single position, even DH, for charity.

On the mound for the Dodgers Ferrell threw a “slurge” to a bunting Rico Noel, fielding the grounder to get the out, and he was then pulled from the game, leaving him with a career 0.00 ERA in 0.1 IP. 🎥: instagram.com/p/DGEE0jfOFPy/

Alex Bregman's new manager, Alex Cora, says the architects of the Astros cheating scheme are "still going through a lot."

Per MassLive's Chris Cotillo, Cora, when asked about 2017, said the sign stealing scandal was a "mistake."

Cora, who was Houston's bench coach, was suspended in 2020 over the cheating scandal when he was Red Sox manager. The Sox hired him back again after the suspension. AJ Hinch was hired by Detroit after serving his suspension.

Carlos Beltran, the only PLAYER named in MLB's Astros investigation, was fired by the Mets as manager before ever managing a game. He came close in his first year of HOF eligibility and may be elected to Cooperstown next year.

Womp womp: Nolan Arenado “is likely going to be a part of our club at this point,” Cardinals President of Baseball Ops John Mozeliak says.

After an entire offseason of St. Louis trying to trade Arenado away, and Arenado even rejecting a trade that would have sent him to Houston, it looks like the chances of him being dealt are close to zero at this point.

“Our mindset is Nolan Arenado is our third baseman.”

The Cardinals will owe Arenado $64M over the next three seasons.

Although he made the pitchers report date, Marcus Stroman has not been participating in Yankees spring training workouts, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Per the CBA, workouts are not mandatory until Feb. 22; it’s been indicated Stroman is taking advantage of that fact and may sit out until then.

Manager Aaron Boone admitted it’s an “awkward situation” as the Yankees spent all offseason trying to trade Stroman, who they did not use at all during their 2024 playoff run.

"Danny Burgers" Daniel Vogelbach has been brought in by the Pirates as a special assistant to their hitting department, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Vogelbach hit 12 HR for the Pirates in 2022 and has a career .745 OPS.

The Tigers had a 6-year, $171.5M deal on the table for Alex Bregman before it was reported he and the Red Sox agreed on a contract, Bob Nightengale reports.

Bregman took 3 years, $120M from Boston, with opt-outs, instead of reuniting with his former manager AJ Hinch in Detroit.

All off-season it was reported Bregman was seeking a 5 or 6 year deal, and now it’s apparent he turned down two such offers from the Astros and Tigers. The Cubs reportedly offered the same total value as the Sox, $120M, but at 4 years.

The Red Sox originally drafted Bregman in the 2012 draft, but he chose not to sign and instead went to LSU.

Blake Snell, who has become regarded by many as an arm that doesn’t pitch deep into games, wants to be a “workhorse” for the Dodgers.

“I think I’m a very talented pitcher. I think I’m a workhorse,” Snell told The Athletic. “I’ve got to go more innings. I’ll get there. I’m not in a sprint to get there. I’m just trying to get better every day.”

Snell’s no-hitter for the Giants last year was the first time in his career he got past 7.2 IP in an outing. At the time, Snell said regarding pitching deep into a game and hearing the criticisms, “just did it, leave me alone.”

Former Major Leaguers Pat Mahomes Sr. and John Rocker have agreed to a Barstool boxing match days after the two apparently almost got into it on Bourbon Street after the Super Bowl.

The two jabbed at each other on X, as Rocker said Mahomes “can’t take a damn joke,” with the father of NFL star Patrick Mahomes jawing back by saying “keep my name out your loud mouth.”

The two were on opposing sides of the Mets-Braves rivalry in the late 90s, at a time when Rocker was very hated by Mets fans.

On some LA players’ post-World Series trash talk, Aaron Boone hopes his guys would handle the same situation with “a little more class.”

Some notable instances of trash talk by the Dodgers were Chris Taylor saying the Yankees “sh— down their leg,” Walker Buehler expressing the Yankees “f—-ed up” in altering his warm-up routine because of Fat Joe’s pre-game musical performance, and Mookie Betts saying “f—- you guys” to the Yankee fans who interfered with him making a catch in foul ground.

Anthony Rendon is undergoing hip surgery after a setback in his rehab, The Athletic’s Sam Blum reports.

Rendon is “expected to miss a long amount of time.“

Across the first five years Rendon’s $245M contract with the Angels, he has not played more than 58 games in a season. (That includes the first year, 2020, in which he did play 52 of 60 games in the pandemic shortened season)

Rendon made headlines last year for, on top of knowing his injury history, publicly wished for the baseball season to be shortened.
