H.E Governor Paul Simba Arati today officiated the issuance of wheel chairs to 106 persons with mobility challenges.

The initiative is courtesy of a collaboration between the County Government of Kisii and 'Walkabout' Foundation, which is aimed at empowering Persons With Disabilities in the county.

Through the initiative,100 PWDs in the county had been issued with wheel chairs and cumulatively 206 wheel chairs have so far been issued to beneficiaries selected from accross all the 9 sub-counties.

The programme is in line with H.E the Governor's desire to have each of the 'differently abled persons' in the county empowered through suchlike assistive efforts, besides being engaged in various economic activities for self sufficiency.

The Governor thanked the Walkabout Foundation for coming in to support the county in aiding the persons with mobility challenges and appealed to other well-wishers to join in and support the cause.

To facilitate the education of of needy students in Kisii County, H.E Governor Paul Simba Arati re-introduced the County Bursary Fund.
The bursary was stopped in 2019 and funds diverted elsewhere.

With the current budget allocation of Ksh. 225 million,each ward is set to receive Ksh.5 million from the kitty.

H.E Arati also initiated a personal Scholarship programme dubbed 'Elimu na Simba', for the most needy students.

: To help diversify areas of food production for food security, nutrition and income generation for Kisii county residents, H.E Governor Paul Simba Arati is leading a countywide campaign to promote aquaculture and livestock production.

In this regard, due to lack of large water bodies for capture fisheries, farmers are being encouraged to venture into fishpond development, with the county government availing stock and inputs.

In livestock production, while promoting AI,the department of livestock has upscaled the vaccination of stock against various diseases to engender a healthy population for maximum returns.
Green vegetable farmers and sellers in Kisii County have a reason to smile.

This follows the completion of two vegetable aggregation and marketing centres at Magena and Marani,whose construction was launched by H.E Governor Paul Simba Arati, 7 months ago.

The aggregation centres are set to boost sales of green vegetables, through the pooling together and cold storage facilities, thereby benefiting local farmers in the longrun.
Following the operationalisation of the Avocado and Banana factories in Kisii County which H.E Governor Paul Simba Arati recently launched, the county government has established a two acre nursery bed with capacity to hold over 1 million assorted seedlings,at any given time, at the Kisii ATC.

The nursery project was conceived in an effort to help farmers to access quality avocado seedlings and banana plantlets for planting so as to increase crop production to sustain the processing industry.

H.E Governor Paul Simba Arati is stepping up efforts to ensure the constant availability of potable water for Kisii County residents.

To address water shortage in Kisii Municipality, the management of GWASCO is being streamlined accordingly, with the key water supply plant at Kegati being spruced up.

In a bid to extend the water pipeline within the municipality, Governor Arati has launched the construction of the Ksh 19 million Kiogoro water project, with a new 9.4 KM pipeline, covering Kiogoro, Otamba, Nyabiuto and Amariba areas of Nyaribari Chache constituency.

Several boreholes and water schemes are underway in various spots throughout the county, while the county government has embarked on the distribution of high capacity water tanks for water harvesting to county schools.

H.E Governor Paul Simba Arati is keen on talent development and youth empowerment in Kisii County.

To this end, the substandard football pitch at Gusii Stadium which has been posing match challenges due to flooding when it rains, is undergoing an overhaul to fix the drainage system.

Apart from equipping county libraries to promote the reading culture among the youth, The Governor has also initiated a partnership with Ajiry to offer the youth free training in ICT and IC3 at the Kisii Ajiry centre at the Gusii Stadium.

Further, in the area of social protection, the county is seeking partnerships to empower PWDs by aiding access to wheelchairs and gadgets for income generation such as sewing machines.

H.E Governor Paul Simba Arati has kicked off the opening of more feeder roads in Kisii County,with an aim to increase the county road network from 3000 KM to 5000 KM, in the next 4 years.

In this regard, 70 road projects have been undertaken in all the sub- counties, in the last one year.

A number of roads in Kisii Municipality are being upgraded to bitumen standards, while at Ogembo municipality,the roads are being opened in earnest.

For the sake of efficiency, technical officers from the relevant county departments do undertake thorough inspection before the contractors are paid.

The Governor Paul Simba Arati administration is transforming operations in the Health Sector, in Kisii County.

One year on, the Microwave shredder at Kisii Teaching & Referral Hospital (KTRH) which had stalled has been operationalised to handle hazardous waste from health facilities in Kisii and neighbouring counties.

Timely distribution of Drugs and non pharms to all health facilities in the county and efficiency in utilization of the drugs has been enhanced through the phased ongoing installation of cashless drug receipt and dispensing system.

Equally the cashless operations at the KTRH has seen the upshot of revenue to up to 83 million shillings,at close of FY 2022-2023.

Working with the KUKHA, the county is set to establish a centre of excellence in healthcare, in the county.

At the same time, the County Government has kicked off deliberate efforts to restore best practices at the KTRH mortuary.

H.E Governor Paul Simba Arati today had a meeting with Kenyan Athletics Champion Mary Moraa who recently clinched a Gold medal in the the 800M race, in the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

The Governor congratulated Moraa for lifting high the Kenya flag, in the world arena, thereby doing the County and Gusii community proud.

The Governor noted that indeed, Moraa's feat underscores the potential of the County in area of athletics, calling for the need to nurture and develop the talent.

Moraa on her part observed that the county lacked a fully fledged sports academy and appealed for the establishment of the utility.

The Governor undertook to explore modalties towards the setting up of a sports academy, besides the establishment of a sports complex to enable talent development, as envisioned in his transformative agenda for the county.

H. E Governor Paul Simba Arati today hosted a team of Chinese investors who are in Kisii County to explore various investment opportunities.

The team is in Kisii on an actual ground visit and fact finding mission, following an earlier engagement with the Governor in China recently.

The investors led by Mr. Gao,have shown interest in Agriculture, Health, Urban Planning, Waste Management, marketing among other sectors.

They expressed optimism in giving Kisii a head start in the manufacturing sector and establishing a relationship between China and our County.

The Governor reiterated his commitment in finding investment opportunities for local and international entrepreneurs to bolster the social economic status of the county.

On the same note, he said he has initiated the process of finding markets both locally and internationally where they can fetch substantial income to improve the livelihoods of our farmers, in line with my manifesto and as I promised during my campaigns.

He took the investors on a tour of the Avocado and Banana processing Plants and the team was very much impressed with the measures put in place by my administration in establishing the industries and their subsequent takeoff.

The investors expressed their desire to invest in the county especially in the pharmaceutical sector in Kisii that will serve the East Africa region.

This has come as a result of the Governor's recent tour to China with the Members of the County Assembly and their leadership with a sole purpose of connecting our County and investors from China.
