Check out this lumbar fusion article from our May edition! This article found that patients with poorer PROM scores at preoperative stages were more likely to achieve meaningful improvements during the early postoperative period. In contrast, patients with WC status, patients undergoing revision lumbar fusion, and patients who underwent ALIF had lower odds of early MCID achievement. To learn more about how surgeons can recognize these trends to better anticipate the trajectory of clinical improvements in the early postoperative period, check out the full article on our website (joei.pub)!

Check out this article from our May edition! This article found that higher BMI, greater preoperative arm pain, smoking, and depression are significant risk factors for MCID drop-off for various PROMs. Male s*x and anterior cervical plating were factors against regression of previously attained MCID for SF-12 PCS and VAS neck, respectively. New publication! Check this article regarding patient recovery outcomes post lumbar decompression.

These results display that location and size of lumbar disc herniation may yield a significant effect on postoperative PROMs at intermittent time points, while conversely not impacting rates of MCID achievement for the same outcomes. Ultimately, patients achieve a similar resolution of symptoms post recovery.
