SEN BALA MOHAMMED RESPONDS TO NYESOM WIKE

The attention of Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, has been drawn to the latest disjointed and bombastic media chat by Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the Honorable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. In his characteristic style, Chief Wike launched into his now-predictable tirade, marked by contradictions, grandstanding, and a perplexing display of loyalty that seems to shift with the wind.

While Wike’s incoherence often makes it difficult to discern any substantive points, Sen. Bala Mohammed finds it necessary to respond to a few specific remarks that distort facts and aim to undermine the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)—the very platform that gave Wike his political rise.

2- A Transactional Politician Who Bites the Hand That Feeds Him

Chief Wike’s ascendancy in politics is a testament to the opportunities provided by the PDP. Yet, he now gleefully undermines the very foundation that nurtured him. It is disheartening that a man who owes so much to a party that stood by him in his political journey has chosen to be a willing tool in its denigration. His recent media outburst was yet another reminder of his transactional approach to politics, where personal ambition eclipses loyalty, principles, and collective interests.

Unlike Wike, who thrives on drama and divisiveness, Sen. Bala Mohammed has always understood that politics is not a game of self-serving theatrics but a platform to serve the public good. Wike’s erratic behavior and opportunistic alliances expose him as an unreliable and fair-weather friend—traits that alienate even those who once stood by him.

3- Friendship and Governance: A False Narrative

Chief Wike’s assertion that he is not friends with Sen. Bala Mohammed is as irrelevant as it is puerile. Governance is not built on personal friendships but on competence, vision, and the ability to deliver results. Sen. Bala Mohammed’s achievements in Bauchi State speak for themselves. His leadership has elevated the PDP as a formidable opposition party, countering the excesses of the APC-led federal government, while Wike busies himself playing a double game—PDP by day, APC by night.

Should Wike ever have a moment of genuine self-reflection and wish to align himself with true leadership, Sen. Bala Mohammed would welcome him with open arms. Until then, Wike’s friendship—or lack thereof—is inconsequential to the progress of Bauchi State and the strengthening of Nigeria’s democracy.

4- A Hypocritical Critic of Opposition Politics

Wike’s attempt to question Sen. Bala Mohammed’s opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills is not only baseless but hypocritical. While Wike accuses others of insincerity, he has seamlessly transitioned from being a self-proclaimed PDP stalwart to an ardent supporter of the APC government. He now advocates for the re-election of the same APC administration in 2027, all while continuing to claim membership in the PDP. This chameleonic behavior raises serious questions about Wike’s credibility and moral compass.

Nigerians are not deceived by Wike’s antics. They see a man willing to undermine his party for personal gain, a man whose loyalty shifts as quickly as his alliances. By contrast, Sen. Bala Mohammed’s opposition to the Tax Reform Bills reflects a principled stand aimed at ensuring inclusive governance and accountability. His constructive interventions have already led to significant adjustments in the reform process, underscoring the importance of meaningful dialogue over hollow rhetoric.

5- Wike’s Governance of Insults and Disarray

Chief Wike’s tenure as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has been marked less by governance and more by his weekly spectacle of media insults. Instead of using his platform to unite and inspire, Wike has reduced public service to a theater of absurdity, alienating stakeholders and creating unnecessary tensions. His combative style and inability to engage in constructive dialogue make him a liability to the government he serves and a source of embarrassment to his former party.

Even members of the APC are reportedly dismayed by Wike’s antics, which reflect poorly on the administration as a whole. His relentless noise-making and attention-seeking detract from the serious business of governance, undermining the credibility of the very government he claims to represent.

6- The Hypocrisy of Dual Loyalties

Chief Wike’s dual loyalty—if it can even be called that—is a dangerous precedent in Nigerian politics. His shameless oscillation between PDP and APC undermines the moral fabric of democracy. Politics must be guided by principles, not by personal whims. Wike’s behavior, reminiscent of George Orwell’s Animal Farm, where roles blur and values vanish, exemplifies the kind of amoral politics that erodes public trust and damages national unity.

7- Sen. Bala Mohammed: A Leader of Substance

In contrast to Wike’s theatrics, Sen. Bala Mohammed has consistently demonstrated vision, focus, and integrity. His leadership within the PDP Governors Forum and his principled stance on national issues, including the Tax Reform Bills, reflect his commitment to Nigeria’s progress. While Wike entertains the public with his media circus, Sen. Bala Mohammed remains steadfast in his mission to uplift the people of Bauchi State and strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.

8- Conclusion

Chief Wike’s antics may grab headlines, but they offer little substance. His betrayal of the PDP and his divisive politics reveal a man driven by personal ambition rather than public service. As Nigerians continue to see through his duplicity, Wike’s legacy will be that of a political mercenary who squandered opportunities and betrayed his allies.

Meanwhile, Sen. Bala Mohammed will continue to lead with dignity, focus, and a commitment to the greater good—values that stand in stark contrast to Wike’s self-serving agenda. The time for governance is now, and it requires leaders of integrity, not noisemakers who prioritize personal gain over national progress.

Yuletide: AKSEPWMA Promises Round the Clock Service
..As AKHA Environment Cmtte Chair Gives Kudos

As Akwa Ibom State prepares to join the world in celebrating the upcoming festive season, the Chairman of the State's Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA) Hon. (Dr.) Prince Akpan Ikim, has announced the readiness of the Agency to provide round-the-clock waste management services before, during and after the yuletide.

This, according to the AKSEPWMA boss, is in order to keep the State clean, green and safe for its residents and visitors during the holiday and beyond.

Obong Ikim stated this while fielding questions from Newsmen on Saturday during the Statewide environmental sanitation exercise for the month of November.

The Security expert-cum-politician divulged that the Agency's top priority was to ensure that the State remains a healthy and enjoyable place for everyone in line with the ARISE Agenda of the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno.

Flanked by the Chairman, House Committee on Environment who represents Okobo in the State House of Assembly; Hon. Bassey Pius, and other members of the Agency's management team, Ikim assured that the Agency is ready to tackle the anticipated increase in waste generation.

He stressed that ensuring a clean and safe environment for the people of Akwa Ibom State is the Agency's top priority, and they will do everything in their power to keep the State clean and healthy during the holidays and beyond.

His words: "Since we know that we will have a lot of people coming into Akwa Ibom, we will ensure that the entire State is clean and green beyond the festive period."

Continuing, the AKSEPWMA helmsman said: "like in the Christmas park, we have informed all kiosk owners to have a big cellophane bags where they must ensure they bag their waste and we will create a dump point for them. We will ensure that all waste generated at the park are evacuated every morning."

The Chairman assured that in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, AKSEPWMA is committed to making this holiday season a memorable one for the people of Akwa Ibom State. He encouraged everyone to look forward to an even cleaner and safer environment than ever before.

Collaborating the statement of the AKSEPWMA helmsman, the Chairman, House Committee on Environment, Hon. Bassey Pius, commended the Agency for its tireless efforts to fulfill its mandate. He said, "The Agency's plans for keeping the Christmas park clean and safe are truly commendable. My team and I will do everything in our power to remove any bottlenecks so that AKSEPWMA can deliver on its mission in accordance with the ARISE Agenda of His Excellency, the Governor."

He however appealed to residents to support the good work of AKSEPWMA and desist from acts capable of making life miserable for the environment and its inhabitants.

Meanwhile, following the Statewide sanitation exercise, which took place between 7am and 10am, a Post Sanitation exercise commenced and will last until Tuesday. A Mop Up Exercise will then be conducted from Tuesday to Friday to ensure that the State remains clean and safe for all residents and visitors. These exercises are being conducted in accordance with the schedule set by the AKSEPWMA and are part of the Agency's ongoing efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment for the people of Akwa Ibom.

Lawyer warns Nigeria Police, sister agencies against hasty detention of online publishers
-Barr. Ekemini Udim

A legal practitioner, Mr. Ekemini Udim, has warned Nigeria Police Force and sister security agencies against jumping at every request to arrest and detain an online publisher.

Udim spoke this at a seminar organised by the Conference of Online Publishers in Akwa Ibom (COOPA) held in Eden Hotel, Eket, Akwa Ibom State on Saturday.

‘‘Petitions should be carefully scrutinised in-house with media experts in the police and possibly with police lawyers so as to arrive at informed decisions on whether to publication complained of is defamatory at all,’’ he said.

Speaking on Legal Burden of Online Publishing and the Increasing Scourge of Harassment Faced by Bloggers & Social Media Influencers, he noted that online publishers, bloggers and social media influencers have become endangered species.

‘‘While we celebrate the beauty of online publishing, one cannot fail to mention the fact that in recent time, online publishers, bloggers and social media influencers have become endangered species. They have been haunted across the globe. In Nigeria, the situation is not better.

‘‘Many online publishers, bloggers and social media influencers have been arrested by the police and sister security agencies and detained for days un-end at the behest of some powerful members of society who walk the earth as the untouchables.

‘‘Today we have influential men and women in the Nigerian society who strongly believe that they are above criticism. That their activities should never be scrutinized by any journalist or any person born of a woman. Here lies the cross of the online publisher, blogger and influencer.

‘‘He is constantly on the radar of the security agencies and closely monitored. In most instances, the online journalist is not sure of the story that will annoy the political actor and activate his arrest and detention. In the course of my practice law, I have had occasion to defend journalists dragged to court by the police at the behest or instigation of the high and mighty.

‘‘The reality today is that there is indeed an existential threat to the online journalism profession. This is a serious matter for which society must address. If I am to itemise the names of online media practitioners that have been arrested, locked up and charged to court after much pressure, we certainly will not leave here today.

‘‘But the records are there for all to see and feel the impact of the increasing scourge of harassment faced by online publishers, bloggers & social media influencers. Some have even lost their lives in the course of duty,’’ the legal practitioner pointed out.

The outgone COOPA Chancellor, Ifreke Nsewo stressed the need for online to be ethical in the performance of their duty.

‘‘The need to be ethical in our jobs cannot be overemphasized because many bloggers and social media influencers are being targeted for harassment, intimidation and incarceration.

‘‘In fact, statistics now show that bloggers are now more endangered than core professional journalists. These happen because we have left loopholes in our publications which those who are affected by our publications have exploited to hound us. So, we must learn the ethics. We must be wise because if birds have learnt to fly without perching, hunters should also learn to shoot without missing,’’ Nsewo stated.

According to him, ‘‘So, we have brought Ekemini Udim to speak to us in the aspect of legal implications of this our job. You remember sometime last year, I was hounded and targeted for arrest and possible incarceration for publishing a document I sourced from the courts. So, let Barr. Udim tell us if I ran foul of the law by publishing what was merely a public document.’’

BREAKING NEWS 💥💥💥

BUA Cement reduces ex-factory cement prices to N3,500/bag effective October 2, 2023.
——- -
We refer to our previous pronouncements regarding our intent to reduce cement prices upon the completion of our new lines at the end of the year, in order to spur development in the building materials and infrastructure sectors.

As per the commitment made to reduce prices and following a periodic review of our operations for efficiency, the management of BUA Cement Plc wishes to announce and inform our esteemed customers, stakeholders, and the public that effective October 2, 2023, we have decided to bring the price reduction forward. As a result, BUA Cement would now be sold at an ex-factory* price of 3,500 Naira per bag so that Nigerians can begin to enjoy the benefits of the price reduction before the completion of our plants.

Upon completion of the ongoing construction of our new plants, which would increase our production volumes to 17million metric tonnes per annum, BUA Cement PLC intends to review these prices further in line with our earlier pronouncements by the first quarter of 2024.

NOTE: all pending, undelivered orders which had been paid for at the old prices will be reviewed downwards to N3500/bag in line with the new pricing from October 2, 2023. Our licensed dealers are also enjoined to ensure that end-users benefit from this reduction in ex-factory prices as we will monitor field sales to ensure compliance.

NIGERIA AT 63: Whether or Not to be

By Hero Akpata

There is nothing independent about this current Nigeria. Every indices that characterize an independent and sovereign nation is missing from Nigeria. A disposition of despair and helplessness have enveloped the younger generation, whose future has been mortgaged by the political class on the altar of greed, graft and nepotism.

I can not wish Nigeria a happy independence when every arms of government is at the mercy of the executives. I can not wish Nigeria a happy independence when there is a widening line between the rich and the poor. I can't wish a country that promotes injustice, lawlessness and inequality a happy independence. A country where lawmakers, executives and those around the corridors of powers are getting wealthy while ordinary people are getting poorer can not said to be independent.

That hope of a greater tomorrow is no longer there, that faith that inspires patriotism is long gone, that will to work together for a United prosperous Nigeria is now a mirage, all the reasons to believe there's a future to wait for in this land can't be grasped anymore, what is left is an unending decaying carcass of a failed union state. Let the truth be said no matter who it offends, Nigeria can no longer survive on the ingredients of lies being used by its leaders to spice up the taste while its citizens feel otherwise. Let the discussion ensue on the foundations of this British experiment by the various indigenous people wether to be or not to be. Whatever be the outcome should be implemented, but i strongly suggest a breakup will not be good enough.

NIGERIA AT 63: Which Way My Country

By Hero Akpata

Nigeria as a country has been plagued by numerous problems. We are conglomerate of different tribes, divided and full of hate. How did we get here? It is already part of history that our problems started when Lord Lugard forcefully merged us in 1914; since then, it has been from one problem to another.

On October 1, 1960, the British government granted independence and left us in the hands of selfish leaders. The truth about Nigeria is, we are not one: A country where you are either superior or inferior based on your ethnic background, is nothing but deception.

Politicians steal our money in droves each dispensation, promising a better life; alas we keep getting worse. In 2015, Nigerians in their multitude voted for the ruling party at the center with the hope of a promising change. 8 years later, we are in chains, yet to see the change. A country where the President doesn't care about the dying populace, regimes that hunts down opposition at will, a draconian government that has further divided us along ethnic and religious lines. I weep for Nigeria, the labours of our heroes past are now in vain!
We have become refugees in our own country. From the former to the present, the problems remain the same. We only see projects on the pages of newspapers, we never get to see them in reality.

Which way Nigeria? Truth is now a scarce commodity, only praise singers are seen as good democrats, from North to South and from East to West people are perpetually kept in darkness.
We now celebrate darkness and pay for darkness instead of celebrating progress, our politicians are celebrating political defections instead of celebrating technological advancement. Our politicians are celebrating 'crooked' electoral victory keeping the people perpetually poor so that they can buy their conscience for peanut. Which way Nigeria? Our roads are now death traps, yet each administration keeps blaming the previous ones. Our farmlands are now blood lands where a group of wicked herders truncate the lives of poor Nigerians, yet our President doesn't care.

Politics is now a business and a way of survival for a rich few who steal our resources and take them to foreign lands. They benefited from free education but make education too expensive for the poor.
Which way Nigeria? Are we on course?
I have given up on Nigeria, our youths are leaving the country in droves for foreign countries in search of a better life. No wonder Nigerians are treated as slaves and contrabands in other countries, we are no longer the pride of Africa, rather we've become a pain in the ads of Africa. I won't wish anyone a happy Independence day, rather I will wish you a happy new month. You might see me as a prophet of doom and a pessimist, but I will ask you a question, are we on course or are we cursed?

Happy New Month in advance!
