The solution: look out of your bubble and remember other people have as complex lives as you do. Things are seldom exactly as you think.

One of the issues is that when we get excited on social media, we stop breathing deeply. And when we stop breathing deeply, there’s less oxygen in our body, which leads to more anxiety and stress. Consider this your call to calm.

Close your eyes and take some deep breaths. Make the out breath longer than the in breath. This activates your parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system to help you relax.

Breath in love, breath out stress. You’re right here and you’re okay.

There was a time in my life when I dreaded Mondays. I was living in Japan and 3 of my neighborhood cafes opened well before I needed to go to work. So Mondays became coffee shop Mondays. I would go with a friend or with a book and enjoy a couple of hours first thing on Monday morning.

Here’s the crazy part. I woke up EARLIER on MONDAY than the rest of the week because of ANTICIPATION. I gave myself something to look forward to - a time for connection with a friend or a pleasurable moment with a book. This took the focus from work to something I looked forward to an found enjoyable.

Have you ever labeled something “impossible”? For years, that’s how I felt about visiting Australia and New Zealand—until I made it happen.

I used to think this trip was too far, too expensive, too impractical. But I changed my thinking and for my 44th birthday, I gave myself the ultimate gift: a first trip of a lifetime. Six countries in six weeks, each more magical than I imagined.

What made it even more special were the connections—meeting old friends, sharing meals, and embracing the serendipity of adventure. The most amazing things happened, so that this trip surpassed my original dreams.
