When my sweet dog, DJ, black lab/collie mix had to be put down last summer I swore I was done with dogs. It was just too painful to go through again. The only thing that could possibly change my mind struck this month!
My son is moving to Alaska and they cannot take their 2 year old Maggie, a mutt mix of Boxer, Cane Corso Mastiff and?? dog with them as they will be renting while building.
When I was asked I was prepared with my answer, ready to tell them "no thanks" but then my son pulled out his winning card. My granddaughter is the one who's bonded with the dog most and this was breaking her heart. Ok, maybe if I keep her for a few years till they have their house built then my granddaughter can have her dog back.
So I flew to Texas to see my grandchildren and parents and bring Maggie back home with me. In all transparency Maggie was much bigger than I was led to believe. I was told, correctly, that she is pure muscle but not a mean bone in her body and that is very accurate.
Maggie and I never missed a beat when we arrived home, we've bonded very quickly to the point that she seems to think my bed is actually hers!! She has a very curious personality and makes me laugh as her head tilts first one way then the other. Who can resist that baggy skin face and deep sad eyes.
So you will likely be hearing and seeing a lot about Maggie here starting today. She is definitely going to be a very big part of my life. Thank you ahead of time for humoring me on this subject.
