I should have knocked on wood with my last post. FRIENDS! I actually came close to dying over the weekend. No, I’m not kidding and I’m doing much better!
The story:
Last week Jason was heading out of town and me with a long time lingering cough, decided to visit urgent care to get an antibiotic for what I believed was bronchitis. Turns out it was, but while visiting my blood pressure was high (which is normal due to the visit . I’m not a fan of doctor visits and have ptsd). The doctor wanted me to do a CT scan to make sure my hurting lungs wasn’t a blood clot, so I agree. I didn’t have any clots, they agreed about the bronchitis, gave me a steroid shot, steroid pills, an anabiotic, and an inhaler.
The next morning we drove Jason to the airport and it was on the way home when I realized how much pain my legs and back were in. I decided that night to go back to urgent care and found out I was having a horrible reaction to the culture shot given for the CT scan. They flushed out my system and I went home. Then not even 24 hours later the “real pain” set in. Turns out I also have severe reactions to steroid pills. Basically I’m super sensitive to all medicines and always have extreme reactions to them. By Saturday night the steroids were running full force in my body and causing severe side effects. I had the highest levels of anxiety I’ve ever experienced, my heart was racing, I wasn’t getting enough oxygen, I was nauseous, disoriented, and had the worst case of insomnia. After crossing over almost 48 hours of no sleep I realized at some point I stopped eating food which was causing the medicine to not absorb properly in my body. I could hardly speak due to lack in oxygen and was so scared.
By Monday morning I force myself to start eating again, stopped taking the steroid pills and fought my way back to health. I’m sure you’re thinking why didn’t you call 911? My fear was that if I went to the hospital they would pump me with even more medicines that would cause even more side effects. So I knew the best thing for my body was to simply detox the steroids as quickly as I could. What a weird and scary weekend, but I’m recovering well and so grateful for life!
