The CEO of Instagram himself admitted that Reels are "still quite far behind."

So what can we expect next year if these past 2 years have just been the beginning?

Here are some predictions:
✨ Advancements in the Reels algorithm
We already know the algorithm doesn't favor low-quality and recycled content but we can imagine this will get more defined to compete with TikTok.

✨ Reels shopping will get an upgrade!
We're thinking like tagged products in posts- but in Reels and maybe with a twist?

✨ Reels will become even MORE prominent in the app
Some home feeds have already turned primarily covered in Reels as we've reached the end of 2021. Expect more changes like this showcasing Reels above photo in 2022!

✨ Reels aesthetics will also become more prominent
Reels are definitely less chaotic than TikTok. We expect to continue to see Reels get interpreted in classic Instagram fashion- aesthetically pleasing and captivating!

✨ Reels will have a separate identity to the clock app😉
The two apps already have their own twist to short-form video content. We're expecting to see Reels try to upgrade more features to continue to create their own identity.

✨ New & (hopefully) improved editing features
Reels glitches will be the death of me. We're REALLY hoping for bug fixes to the frustrating glitches that come with creating & editing in Reels as it matures through 2022.

✨ New incentives for creators!
Reels has already been testing the "Instagram Reels Play" bonus program for creators in this last quarter of 2021 but it hasn't been released to all creators yet. We expect to see this expand more throughout the new year.
