Day 9 of the Beet Harvest was productive!

Yesterday we came in and were assigned a different piler than we usually have .. no biggie.

From the moment we got on site until the end of our shift we were rocking and rolling piling beets, so much different than any other shift we have had so far. For most of the night it was just Joel and I running it! We did end up having help later in the evening as a different piler was shut down.

We did have two different instances that we got the boom stuck but thankfully with the help and instructions of fellow workers we were able to get it corrected and get back on track. We are so thankful for their instruction and guidance, I (Tanya) learned a lot!

Day 8 of the Beet Harvest was another shut down day 😞

The day wasn't a total loss... Joel picked up a Job replacing a water heater with a new Instant Water Heater!

We should be back to work soon... Thank goodness, we want to get this harvest done already. So fingers crossed the weather will start to cooperate πŸ™

We decided to head to the Casio with some friends to play some bingo.

It's been nice to have a few days off but we are ready to get back to work so we can get these beets piled so we can be done.

Day 5 of the Beet Harvest was a short one.

We knew we were shut down when we pulled in and didn't see trucks rolling but we were unsure of how long.

Once on-site we found out we were shut down completely for the day so the plan was everyone was to clean their piler and after 4 hours could go home. A nice surprise and allowed us to run to the store to stock up and let our bodies relax a bit☺️

Day 4 of the Beet Harvest was a long one!

This shift we actually ran trucks the whole time and didn't get shut down for weather. Joel was operating the piler and I was working the ground with the trucks (taking samples, guiding trucks and cleaning...lots of cleaning 😞) after three hours our machine got shut down and we had to clean it up and move over to the next piler over to assist the other couple.
We were also asked to stay until 2:30 am 😬. So we ended up working 2:45 pm to 2:30 am.

To say we are exhausted and sore is an understatement.

Day 3 was a strange and exhausting shift!
Everything was shut down an hour before we got on site so we spent the next three hours cleaning the mess from the day shift πŸ˜”.

We were told we would start running at 7pm so we took our dinner break and waited.

A little after 7 they shut our piler down and sent us over to the next one over to help that crew... We ran that for a few hours until they had an issue and had to shut down.

While we waited we got sent to another piler to help that crew and then worked that piler until 11pm where we shut down for the night and had to clean that piler until 12am

Needless to say we are exhausted, sore and ready to be done🀦

Day 2 for us last night was definitely interesting. (Our shift is 3pm to 12am ) We arrived at 2:45 only to hear we had been shut down since 2pm because it was too warm (which is so strange since it was about 54 outside) so we cleaned the piler for 3 hours... We have never scraped so much dirt in our lives 🀣.

We then heard that we probably wouldn't start receiving beets until 10pm 😳 so we decided to head to our truck and wait and eat our "dinner" while we waited. Finally 10 pm rolled around and we hoped we would have some trucks so we started the piler to warm everything up only to sit and wait for NOTHING 🀦

So in our 9 hour shift we saw zero trucks! Lol

The weather is not looking great this week so I'm sure it will be more of the same all week πŸ˜”

Yesterday was finally Day 1 of the Beet Harvest!

We didn't die..lol 🀣
Joel and I were assigned to a piler by ourselves which was a bit nerve wrecking at first... Thankfully it was a slow start after a five hour shut down for too warm of weather. Once we finally started receiving trucks and after hours of cleaning 😞 we got ourselves into a nice groove just in time for them to shut our piler down and send us over to help on another piler 🀦

We came home at 12:30 am sore and exhausted πŸ₯± Hopefully our bodies will get used to it 🀞

Unfortunately now we wait to hear when we will start actual work. The weather is affecting our start date 😞, but on the brighter side we have about a week to relax, explore the area and get to know our fellow workers 😁

Since it is supposed to rain tomorrow and then we will be leaving the area we thought we would take a quick trip over to Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

It was very pretty but it was a weird park, it was spread out weaving back and forth from neighborhoods, parking was difficult and unfortunately most of the sites were mainly accessible via hiking (which we weren't set up to do 😞 )

If you are in the area it's definitely worth it to check out but hit at the bottom of our list.

We did the K**b Creek tasting at Jim Beam, then headed over to Bardstown Bourbon Company for a drink and some lunch and ended our day at Lux Row Distillery. It is so interesting how each of the places we have visited this week are so different.

Today was our second day on the Bourbon Trail. We started off with a tour of Buffalo Trace, where we might have spent a few πŸ’΅ πŸ€ͺ before moving into two other distilleries to finish off the day.
